My library was built in the 1980's for a different generation of students. It is a large space with great natural lighting but my students only notice the dark furniture and drab carpet. The graphic novels/manga are located just inside the door of the library and I want to place a colorful rug and gamer chairs in front of those books. I want my students to see the library as a place that is as diverse and dynamic as they are. My students who love graphics love to sit on the floor and browse the collection. The color-block rug will define the space as unique and special. The gamer chairs will give them a better place to browse and read. Often time kids who love graphic novels feel like they are not reading for real, but they are. This space is designed to help those kids feel special. In my 10 years experience as a media specialist, I have seen kids grow as readers from exclusively reading manga, to enjoying print novels too! I want my library to be a vibrant place for reading and learning so I can grow happy diverse humans. Thank you.
