  • Transporting Students to Another Place and Time

    Funded Feb 24, 2018

Thank you so much for your generous donation years ago. I am continuing to use this classroom set of books even though I have moved to the 3rd grade. Lauren Tarshis writes amazing, historical nonfiction stories and my students have loved reading these books.

They learn how to plan their time wisely as they are given a timeline of when different chapters should be read and different activities should be completed. I feel like this is prepping them for the "real" world where they will have to meet deadlines.

We also love learning that the places and events in these stories are real. We can incorporate many social studies and science lessons, using these classroom book sets.

Once again, thank you go supporting my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pollard

  • Geared Up For Google!

    Funded Jan 23, 2017

Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity you have given my students. We use our chrome books every day. We start our day with a brief warm up on a program called Moby Max. During this time, they are practicing their math fact fluency. We also use our chrome books during reading and math interventions. During reading, a group of students will record themselves reading a text and then share it with other members in their group. They are able to practice reading/following along with the story multiple times throughout the week, working on fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. Later in the afternoon we use our chrome books to create Google docs and slides. I have reduced the amount of paper I use by having students complete their work in Google docs and sharing their assignment with me. Students that are absent may use this at home as well.

Overall, having a classroom set of chrome books has given my students the opportunity to stay in competition with the other, more larger schools in our state. Living in a small community of less than 2,000 people has its disadvantages when it comes to opportunities for learning, but with the use of technology we can help reach many more students and give them chances to explore the world without leaving our school.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pollard

Almost three years ago, I was awarded a grant that allowed me to purchase twenty Chromebooks for my classroom. When my class size increased, so did the need for more Chromebooks. We only need five more to have a complete class set. My students use the Chromebooks on a daily basis and our projects and daily work are centered around Google Docs, Slides, and Apps. We just finished a classroom presentation on Ghost Towns in Idaho. A group of students used the Google App, MicNote, to record themselves reading a story, then share it with a peer. I have many students on Khan Academy, a program designed to challenge students at their own level and pace. We also use our Chromebooks daily to practice our math fact fluency. As a teacher, I love having my students use Google Docs to write reports. I can provide instant feedback as they are working by leaving a comment within their text. Overall, having Chromebooks in the classroom provides my students with many opportunities for engaged, twenty-first century learning.
