Guiding Firsties With Guided Math Kits
Funded Jul 4, 2018I really appreciated having the funding to be able to purchase all nine units of Reagan Tunstall's Guided Math Kits for 1st Grade. These kits complement what I am expected to teach perfectly. Since I need to print out, laminate and cut many components, it takes time to prepare each unit. It is worth it! The students are able to hands-on practice each skill.
It also includes what I need to say and how I guide small groups of math instruction for re-teach and extension. My students are benefiting from these materials tremendously.
My students are so motivated by technology and love having the interactive math games and an option on the iPads during Math Centers.
I was also able to purchase and print out Guided Math Home Connections. Each unit includes an explanation for family members and activities they can do to reinforce the skills at home.
Thank you again for all of your help and support! My students and I really appreciate it!”

iPads, Charge!
Funded May 3, 2018It was amazing starting the year off with our new iPad charging system. My students learned from the start how to be responsible for our devices and how to keep them organized, safe, and ready to use for the next student. I really appreciate all of the help and support I have received from friends, students' families, and from donors throughout the states.
Thank you so much for helping us! I love that not only I can purchase additional devices for my students but also the accessories to teach them to be responsible digital citizens.”

Ms. Shapiro
Is It My Turn Yet? Another iPad for Firsties!
Funded Mar 27, 2018It was amazing beginning this school year with another iPad for my student to use. I was able to now have half of my students on one and then we switched. It makes life easier so more students can be completing activities as once with the additional iPad. I am one step closer to providing one-to-one devices for my students.
I never thought it was possible to secure additional devices and now I realize that with help near and far through Donors Choose, it is possible! I am so thankful for all of your help and support!
I am looking forward to writing another request for more! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”

Ms. Shapiro

Funded Apr 17, 2018I am so fortunate to start this school year off with a class set of durable, kid-friendly headphones. We tested them out at the end of the year and they were "kid approved" by my students. I love how easy to use they are and the students agree they are so comfortable. Instead of waiting and seeing what headphones students bring from home, I am assured that everyone has a pair to use. We can bring them to the Computer Lab with us, too. I anticipate them being used for several years to come. They also look great because they are color coded by table group so everyone can easily find their ow pair.
Thank you so much for your help and support!”

We're Halfway Through the School Year! Time to Replenish Supplies!
Funded Jan 8, 2018Thank you so much for your continued support of my students and my classroom! We were so excited to replenish some of our supplies.
Once we hit the 100th day of school, so many of our dry erase markers were all dried up. Now, instead of having to share markers, each student can now have the opportunity to write with their own marker when we are doing whole group activities. Our current dry erase pockets were also needing to be replaced. We use them daily for language arts and math centers.
With the purchase of additional wobble stools, students don't have to consistently move the stools around from table to table. Now we have three at our back table. It makes it easier to lead additional guided reading groups.
We love the addition of an iPad stand to help with our Seesaw projects! The additional magnetic tens frames will allow us to continue counting up to the last day of school. We add another dot each day.
Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart! I appreciate your continued help and support!”

Ms. Shapiro
Is It My Turn Yet? An iPad for Firsties!
Funded Jan 17, 2018Thank you so very much for your help and support funding our project! It makes a huge difference having an additional iPad for students to use. Currently, we are only allotted 5 ipads from the school for each first grade class. In order to receive more, it falls on the teacher to get creative. Using Donorschoose.org has really help me and my students!
Now, there is one more iPad in the rotation for students to use during independent Literacy Centers and Math Centers to access iStation Reading, Xtramath.org, and Dreambox.com. Students can share the iPad and form more small groups to create Seesaw projects and access apps such as Monster Math and more!
My students love having an additional iPad and take really good care of it. Hopefully we can fund an additional one for my students in the near future.
Thank you again for your help and support! I really appreciate it!”

Ms. Shapiro
It's Time for "Time for Kids"!
Funded Aug 20, 2017Time for Kids magazines have been such a welcome addition to my guided reading lessons. Each day either myself or a parent volunteer works with small groups of students on the same reading level. We work on the weekly skill and comprehension. Since I was able to purchase two different grade levels of Time for Kids magazines, there is something for everyone in my class.
The children get so excited when they are called back to work on this week's TFK magazine. They love learning about what is going on in the world and are constantly making connects from what they are reading to what we are doing in the classroom. They get to take them home and they share what they read with their families.
I am so glad that Time for Kids was providing a Double Your Impact to donors. Thank you so much to all of my donors for helping fund this project! I appreciate you so much!”

Funded Sep 25, 2017Wow! Having the opportunity to purchase these supplies have really made a difference in my students' ability to record their voices clearly when using the app Seesaw. No only are they able to explain their thinking but they also use the retro mobile phone handsets to listen to the directions that I have recorded for them to follow.
The over the door shoe organizer is a perfect storage device for the students to retrieve and put back the handsets when they are finished. On Fridays, my "Technology Expert" helps me plug in all of the class iPads so they are charged for the upcoming week. By purchasing the phone chargers and cables, my students are empowered to being in charge of the devices. Now that we have our own cleaning kit, the students help me clean the devices. Since they are helping, now they are more inclined to make sure they stay neat.
Now that I have everything set up in my classroom and my students are using everything weekly, I am able to share with my 1st grade teammates my ideas. They can see it in action and are now interested in implementing the same tools, too.
Thank you so much for helping my ideas come to life! We really appreciate it!”

Reken What?! Math supplies for 1st Grade Mathematicians
Funded Aug 12, 2017Being able to start this school year off with the mathematics supplies we needed was a blessing. We started off on Day One with implementing routines such as quick images (where the students had to quickly figure out how many dots were shown). Then we quickly built on that knowledge so they could let me know how many more were needed to make 10 (or 20).
We have been using the math write and wipe boards daily during our whole group lessons and for independent practice. Having a class set of dry erase pockets, dry erase markers, and colored paper has enabled me to create weekly math centers games. Now we are not wasting paper since we can use the pockets and markers to write on and erase. The kids love playing the games such as Toothy Math.
The rekenreks were a fabulous addition to my resources. Now students have another way to solve problems. I love seeing children choose the resource that they resonate the best with.
Thank you so much for your help and support! My little ones and I thank you!”

Ms. Shapiro
Fidgety First Graders Need Active Learning Stools
Funded Feb 10, 2017My students and I absolutely love our new Learniture Active Learning stools! My students have an opportunity to sit on them daily during their Guided Reading lessons. Then, throughout the day, if students would rather sit on them then in their regular chair, they are allowed to swap them out. This gives them the chance to have a flexible seating option.
Students can wiggle and wobble while remaining focused on their current lesson or activity.
Other teachers have come into my room to try out our stools, too, and then have created their own Donors Choose requests to purchase them for their classrooms. Parents have tried them out and enjoy sitting in them when they visit for DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) Time, too.
I also love how the stools match our current furniture!
Thank you so much for your help and support! We really appreciate it!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Shapiro
