We want our students to engage more in the Spanish classroom by making materials more accessible and relevant to their lives. These magazines will allow students to not only practice their reading comprehension in Spanish, but allow them to make connections to communities that differ from their own.
It is our goal to foster a classroom community that teaches students the importance of understanding, respecting, and working with diverse groups of people. Additionally, we hope to acquire more art supplies to help bring their work to life. A lot of our assignments are project-based and many of our students do not have the means to procure basic art supplies like colored pencils or construction paper. It is imperative for our students to make their experience in our classroom relatable to their own lives and help them make connections to foster more open and caring environments that are different from them within the City of Chicago.
By having these resources, we believe our students can achieve the first steps towards engaging with neighboring Spanish-speaking communities.
