Reading, in any language, takes you on adventures. Reading in Spanish about places you've never been is even more of an adventure! In order for my students to travel in real life or mentally they need access to level-appropriate books. The books in their future library will have stories about life or death, friendships tested, new food eaten, and even capybaras with boots! As my students start another difficult year, the one piece of feedback I heard over and over again is that students want a reliable and constant routine. With this enhanced and expanded library each student will be able to select a book of interest for 10 - 15 minutes of free reading at the start of each class. Free reading won't be graded, no quizzes or follow ups, no summaries or questions to answer - just reading to read and explore. Spanish novels help students acquire, not just learn, new words, phrases, and grammar. In order for students to gain these new structures they must get sucked into a good book! I've included many highly recommended books that previous students have loved. Who knows, reading a story set in Colombia or Argentina or Honduras may be the spark that changes a student's goals.
