  • Equity for All

    Funded May 11, 2023

Thank you! My students started using the individual student cushions from the first day we received them. Students no longer have to wait a few days for their turn to use these comfy cushions since we now have a whole class set. This is all thanks to your kindness and generosity.

Equity in the school setting is very important to me. Our students come from different socio-economic backgrounds and their families have different resources at home. However, this should not prevent students to receive a fair shot in our current educational system.

Thanks to thoughtful donors like yourself and programs like DonorsChoose, students can enjoy a more equitable learning experience.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Chavez

  • Not Too Cold/Not Too Hot

    Funded May 10, 2023

These comfy and individual cushions were a game changer for my 4/5th graders during the last couple of school assemblies. In Southern California, it can get very hot in the late spring and summer months. The blacktop area, where students are asked to sit during assemblies, can get even hotter.

Thanks to your generosity, my students got to fully enjoy theses assemblies without having to worry about the weather. The cushions were such at hit, that other teachers asked me where I had purchased them. They were interested in purchasing some for their students too. Muchas, muchas gracias!”

  • Ready to Rock State Testing!

    Funded Apr 22, 2023

It is with immense gratitude that I write this letter. The desk dividers really helped my students feel more confident and successful during state testing thanks to your generosity.

These colorful dividers made it to our class just in time for this important state test where students get to show off what they have learned all year long. My students said these dividers helped them feel more at ease knowing that they had more privacy while testing. I can't wait to get their results back which, I'm confident, will be at their very best academic level.”

  • New Vacuum to Help Keep Our Classroom Carpet Clean!

    Funded Apr 30, 2023

My students were super excited when our wonderful school janitor brought the lightweight and cordless vacuum to our classroom. Helping vacuum our class will become a student job from now on. As you can imagine, most of my students were asking if they could be the class vacuum monitor. I think I'm going to have to start accepting job applications and interviewing all of the candidates first LOL. Keeping our class clean and dust-free will certainly help students stay healthy, and it will hopefully prevent some allergies too.”

  • Can You Hear the Teacher Now?

    Funded Jan 26, 2023

The wireless voice amplifier has been a game changer in our classroom! No matter where they are seated, all of my students are able to hear my voice. I no longer have to raise my voice when we are out on the playground or the soccer field. Since it's wireless, I am able to use it inside and outside the classroom. It's so light and practical, that I sometimes forget I have it on and I even use it while playing chess with my students. Check out the smile on this cutie pie's face. He's so happy because he was beating me at chess and also because he no longer has to hear his teacher's loud, grouchy voice. Mil gracias!”

  • A Neat and Organized Library is Key to Success

    Funded Jan 25, 2023

Thank you so much for helping our classroom stay organized. When we first received the plastic bins for our classroom library, many students volunteered during their lunch time to help us organize our books. Since I had so many great volunteer candidates, we had to create a daily schedule of who would help each day. The pictures speak for themselves. Having an organized library has encouraged more students to select reading books of their choice. Hopefully, this will help instill in them a life-long love of reading.”

  • Take a Break From All Those Screens and Play Chess!

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

On behalf of all my fourth and fifth graders, muchas gracias. In their own words, here are a few quotes of gratitude from my students:

"Playing Chess is really fun!" -Olivia

"I learned to play Chess for the first time this year. You have to be patient to play and I enjoy it a lot." - Hannah

"You have to have a great strategy to win and it gets your brain thinking a lot." -Emma

"It's a really fun game that stretches your mind and gets you to think more deeply." -Ava

"I like playing Chess because I didn't know how to play before and now I can play with my friends and teacher." -Caleb

"Chess is calm in an exciting way." -Jonah”

  • A Clutter Free Desk is Key to Success

    Funded Mar 9, 2021

This project has been very impactful in the education of my 5th graders. This school year, we returned to full-time in-person learning. Every student has his/her own desk where they keep their books, binders, materials and Chromebooks. The 5th grade materials and books, however, can be large and bulky, especially their Social Studies books and chapter books. These chair sacks have been a lifesaver when it comes to helping students stay organized and well-prepared.

When the students came to school on the first day of school, these useful chair sacks were on their chairs and students were excited to put them to good use. Our class was lucky enough to be able to personalize them with their name tags and artwork. This added a special touch of their sense of ownership in keeping organized and being ready to learn.

On behalf of my wonderful class, thank you so much for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Chavez

  • Read Here, Read There, Read Anywhere!

    Funded Sep 4, 2020

Thank you for helping me give my students the gift of reading a great book. I believe that now more than ever, it is imperative for students to develop a love for reading. Technology is great, but there is nothing like sitting down in a comfy chair and turning the pages to find out what comes next in a good story.

Thank you for helping me give my students the gift of reading a great book that took place during the Civil Rights Movement...an actual, paper book they can hold in their hands, savor and turn the pages to discover new and exciting story events.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Chavez

  • I Will Teach You Here, There and Anywhere!

    Funded Aug 31, 2020

I am very grateful for your support. This year has been one of the most challenging years in my 17 years of teaching. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, educators all over our country and the world have had to make pivots and changes in order to meet the needs of our students and our own families.

The resources that I was able to purchase, thanks to your support, really made a difference. I was able to provide a better educational experience to my students with the laptop desk, lamp, and chair while teaching from home. These items helped me make my dining room area look, feel, and seem more like an actual classroom. My students felt like their distance learning was similar to their traditional in-person experience. Thank you for making a difference and for helping me guide and support my students in these challenging times.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Chavez

The books will help my students become better readers and writers. These books are relatable and my students will enjoy reading them and become more curious about the world we live in. These books are from people who have overcome struggles in their lives- from different backgrounds and different eras in history. They will teach my students that challenges are part of life and that it is important to be perseverant. Also, my students will learn that being hard-working and following one’s life dreams and passions is important. My students will directly benefit from reading these books firsthand and sharing their thoughts and connections in their reading groups.
