The school community is comprised of a diverse student body, faculty, and staff. Located within the Mariners Harbor neighborhood of Staten Island, our school is a Title I school in which many students are from low-income households. Through this pantry initiative, students will be able to obtain independence, autonomy, and a sense of contribution to their families. Students will be able to build upon various social and life skills while utilizing this vital support. Bridging the gap of food insecurity will foster student nutrition, aiding in their academic pursuits. Supporting students through this venture will increase their interest in school, further strengthening academic confidence and success. Shelving is needed to create an open shopping space for students to see the pantry items they can select from. Shopping baskets will support the social routine and they will be able to hold their selected items. Shopping bags will allow them to carry their grocery items home. Rubbermaid storage units and safe are necessary for excess storage.
