  • Going Green!

    Funded Aug 17, 2024

Thank you so much for your donations to my class. We greatly appreciate it. My students and I started a recycling program at my school 3 years ago.

With your donations, we were able to get recycling boxes for all the teachers who participate in our program and supplies needed to pick up recycling effectively. We go to classes all over campus every week to pick recycling and take it to the recycling bins.

This is a great opportunity for my students to learn about recycling, learn a work skill and develop social skills.”

  • Chill Zone for Chill Students!

    Funded Apr 23, 2024

Thank you very much for your donations to this project! My class was moved to a new classroom that had less supports than we were used to. We needed to create a calm area for students to relax and reset in when they are dysregulated. Providing a rocking a chair, rug and other items to create a calm environment really has been beneficial to my students. I have some students who really struggle with self-regulating emotions, and part of my class is aboout developing skills to self- regulate. You have given my class some essential tools to support them in developing this skill.

When I have a student who is feeling overwhelmed and over stimulated, the student can now go to the quiet room to cool down. Students can lay on the rug, rock in the rocking chair and use other sensory items to support in cooling off.

These items have really been a wonderful edition to our classroom and have allowed students to cool off and return to the learning environment.

Thank you very much for your support!”

  • Super Sensory Room for Super Kids!

    Funded May 9, 2023

I wanted to start out by saying thank you very much for donating to my project! With the supplies purchased, we are creating a calming environment for students who are having a hard time to relax in. In my program, I have students who have a hard time expressing them selves when they are upset and this can quickly escalate into a melt down, which can be very unsafe. The space I have been given as a calm down room is full of workout equipment and beat up old couches.

The items I was able to purchase with your donates help spruce up our calm down/ sensory room. I am able to use couch covers to make the couches more comfy and inviting and the students now have soft blankets and pillow to help relax with. The students were so excited when they saw all the new sensory items (fidgets, posters, bean bag chair, etc) and decor. They hardly want to leave the sensory room now because they feel so at home.

Next steps in my program will be to remove old workout equipment that is dangerous and non functional. I think that the room will be fully functional as a sensory room then.

Thank you again so much for your donations, we greatly appreciate it!”

  • Support Students in Regulating Emotions

    Funded Jul 12, 2022

Thank you very much for your donation to my classroom. The resources you have provided are invaluable. The Zones of Regulation Curriculum helps students with intellectual disabilities and students on the Autism Spectrum identify their emotions, and teaches them what each emotions looks and feels like. The curriculum also helps teach students tools to self regulate when feeling frustrated or angry. There are many different lessons provided in the curriculum to support students in developing self-regulation skills. Some lessons include- Zones of regulation bingo (identifying emotions game), Understanding different perspectives and Exploring tools to calm and alert.

In my classroom We use some of the lessons provided in the book to teach primarily about regulating student emotions when they are feeling angry or frustrated. Zones of Regulation gives them the opportunity to learn different tools to use when they are in escalated states rather than demonstrate negative or unexpected behaviors.

Thank you again for supporting my class room with their self-regulating needs.”

  • Super Snacks for Super Students!

    Funded Dec 15, 2021

Thank you so much for your food and snack donations to our class. My students and I greatly appreciate it! When my students come into class and need something to eat, it is wonderful to have snacks on hand. I notice that when they are not hungry, they are more engaged in what they are learning and participate more in class activities. They also seem to be in better moods and are more relaxed.

When my students saw all the food boxes, they were so excited and happy! They knew that they would always have food available if they needed it and as rewards. Their favorite snacks are definitely hot cheetos.

A wonderful thing about having preferred snacks on hand is that I can use them for positive reinforcement. I have students who have some behavioral issues and benefit from using token charts to help with those issues. When they know that they can earn hot cheetos or other snacks, they have better behaviors. Thank you again for your donations! This really does help my students!”

  • Articles to Grow Successful, Happy Students!

    Funded Jul 20, 2021

I just wanted to start out by saying thank you so much for your donations, support and kind words. I am so excited to use these materials with my students. I have been using Scholastic Magazines to teach reading and writing skills for 6 years now and my students just love them. They get really engaged in all the stories and learn a lot from the writing activities.

The wonderful thing about Scholastic Action and Choices Magazines, is that they also include digital resources. Students can work on assignments independently, at their own level of understanding (because articles and writing assignments each come with a lower and higher reading and comprehension levels) or we can read articles and complete writing assignments together as a class.

I love that most of the articles come with a Teacher's guide, comprehension questions, videos to watch and when using they digital magazines, you can present on a screen and it has audio versions of most articles. These are really wonderful materials, especially when teaching special education. I have had a lot of students over the years who love reading the articles and completing assignments for fun or for extra credit as well. Thank you all again for supporting me and my students!”

  • Snacks for Hungry Minds

    Funded Jan 8, 2020

Thank you so much for the resources for this project! The students have used the snacks to fuel their brains while working on class work or when they come to class tired or hungry. This was wonderful donation.

The students reacted with so much excitement seeing their snacks. They love having such a large variety of snacks to choose from. Our class periods are an hour and forty minutes long and I notice that they get hungry in between class or just need a break. I like to use the snacks during the break between class to give them the chance to wake up, get some food, stretch and use the restroom.

At this point we are distance learning, so unfortunately the students are unable to get their snacks, but I use them as an incentive for when they are having a good week and deserve a reward. I send out the snacks to students I feel are making huge improvements and are working hard. Thank you again for all your support.”

  • A Need to Brew: Life Skills Learners Coffee Cart!

    Funded May 7, 2019

First off, I wanted to start out by saying thank you so much for the donations so that we can start our coffee cart business. We are eager to get started. School has just started this week so it will take some time to get rolling. The students look forward to spending time making coffee and delivering coffee to school staff.

When the students saw the supplies coming in, their eyes lit up with excitement! The students knew that we would be starting this business so they were ready to start going. However, as excited as the students are, for this to work successfully, we will have to have a few practice runs first.

The next steps before we can start selling coffee and making a profit would be to advertise and to better prepare the students by practicing making coffee and practicing delivering it. I know that once the students are better prepared we will definitely have a successful coffee selling business where students will be able to learn functional reading, math and life skills to better help them achieve work skills and success in the work place after high school ends.”

  • Preparing for Life and Career

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

I wanted to start out by saying thank you so much for your donation to my classroom!

Because of your donation, I was able to receive an entire class set of " Preparing for Life and Career" by Louise A Liddell and Yvonn S. Gentzler. I am so excited to start using these text books during the upcoming school year! Since I teach Special education life skills, occupational skills and vocational skills, these text books will be the perfect addition to my classroom. I currently took on a new position at my school, Intensive Global Support, where I will work with students on developing functional living skills to help them to be successful in life after high school. This book is going to be perfect for this program.

There are many different skills and lesson that are incorporated in this text book. There are 8 different units: Your development and relationships, Managing your life, Managing your career, Understanding children and parenting, Your health and nutrition, Preparing meals and dining out, The clothes you wear and Housing and transportation. I can see endless activities and lessons to go along with each chapter. For example, when discussing the unit on Managing your Career, I can begin working with students on developing their career interests, research different types of careers, practice filling out job applications, mock interviews and create a resume.

In my classroom, because of the various skill levels that each student possesses, we do a lot of guided reading. We tend to read together as a class, or I will read to the class and students will actively follow along. We also break into small groups and discuss key points of a given reading passage and then share out with the class. Any student who would like to develop more life skills, and develop more independence, will enjoy these textbooks, because they dive into topics that are important for any adult to be successful in the real world. I have not started using the new texts yet, but plan to use them a lot this coming school year and look forward to seeing the students excitement when they see that they have new text books!”
