My students are interested in creating a garden. Unfortunately, in our low income, urban school, the soil around our school is not suitable to grow vegetables. Students in my class will have to think about how to grow plants in a hostile environment. Since they'll be the next generation to go to Mars, why not give them a head start in creative thinking? The donations to this project will help my students to learn about photosynthesis, nutrition, the pH scale, chemistry, physics, machinery, and problem-solving. Students will also learn personal responsibility, caring for living organisms, and have nutritious food to bring home. After watching The Martian, an idea was sparked; an idea that science, creativity, and engineering can help you achieve, what was once thought impossible. For this project students will be setting up the aeroponic system, tending the plants, and maintaining the chemicals and pH system to successfully grow plants without soil. With education, care, and a little bit of luck, the result will be that students will grow their own fruits and vegetables to take home. This is one of those projects that students remember in to adulthood. Please help me create the next generation of scientists to live on Mars. Help me create the next generation of Space Pirates.
