  • Technology Boost

    Funded Mar 30, 2021

Wearing earphones and being tethered to the computer is difficult when I have students in the room who might need help or just a little reminder to stay on task. Having the ear pods allows me to stand up and check on or help students in the room while still hearing and talking to students on Zoom. Everyday I walk around to make sure the students in the room are on the correct Zoom with their cameras on and that they don't have other tabs open.

Thank you for giving me this flexibility! The students thank you too!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Soto

  • Video Venture

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

I want to thank you again for your generous donations. Let me tell you a little bit about how I've started using the new laptop you donated.

I'm taking the instructional videos I've made and I'm uploading them to an educational platform called Edpuzzle. The students love Edpuzzle because as they watch the video there are section breaks that ask them either open-ended questions or multiple choice questions. I create my own video and I create the questions I want the students to answer to check their understanding. Edpuzzle tracks their progress and creates reports for me. The new laptop makes all this happen in a snap!

I'm also starting to use another platform the students love called Kahoot. I'm using it as an assignment rather than a competition. Again, I create the questions and Kahoot tracks their progress for me. Kahoot is always a hit!

I'll continue to explore new and exciting ways to keep all students engaged making math in distance learning fun for all of us!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Soto

I've been using technology in the classroom for a few years now. I have an app on the school iPad that allows me to walk around the classroom and control the screen remotely. I can take pictures of student work and project it. I even have students write on the iPad and it projects to the screen. But this year, there is no classroom. At least not yet. We are all adapting to the remote classroom. So how can I engage students in this remote classroom? With an up-to-date laptop I will be able to engage my students by creating videos that are fun while still delivering math content. I am just starting out but I am experimenting with screencasts, editing, and interactive apps. With remote learning it is now more important than ever to keep students excited about the content and the way it is being delivered, as well as how I ask them to respond to it. It is too easy for them to simply shut off the screen and walk away so I really need to keep their attention. A laptop with increased memory and storage will allow me to make those interesting videos and even take what they submit to me and turn it in to a video too.
