Funded Sep 17, 2020Increased self-confidence and self-understanding, enhanced communication skills, and bringing everyone together both virtually and physically is what we were able to accomplish with the materials given to us.When my students had the opportunity to receive an art kit equipped with everything they need, they were ecstatic and surprised. After receiving the devastating news that they were not going to have art due to budgeting issues at their school, they were not expecting this. I was so happy to bring this to them.
The arts are as important as academics, and this is what I truly believe in and was the force behind my writing this grant. Being virtual (for several weeks now due to school shutdown) has taken its toll on our school community for various of reasons, however with these materials I can bring art alive!- virtually just like we have in person.
Our next step is to continue the projects I have aligned by placing the kits in individual bags, with everything they need to engage in fun-filled art projects hosted by myself and various volunteers. We are "sipping" and painting virtually until we meet again in person. I can't wait. I thank you for honoring the arts and understanding that students develop skills like resilience, grit, and a growth mindset to help them master their craft, do well academically, and succeed in life through art.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Dorcent
