Like many 5th graders, my students have ton of energy. This past year, I had two yoga balls that I used for the students who I felt like could benefit the most. It was a game-changer! I started to see them complete their work, participate and engage in class discussions. This movement is allowing them to truly focus on the content and tasks necessary in our classroom. I don’t know many adults who would want to work at a desk for six hours each day, so why should our students have to learn in this rigid way? The way some of these items will be implemented in the classroom is as follows: The bean bags will be put into our library area - to allow students a comfortable space for them to expand their love for reading. Stools and yoga balls will be places at desks to give students another seating option, instead of a typical chair. Yoga balls will also be able to be moved to small group work spaces around the classroom. The fidget bands will be able to be placed under the chairs of traditional desks; for those students who still like a normal chair option, but still need some assistance focusing. I hope to be able to give all my students the opportunity to sit where they want in order to be successful.
