  • Can I print a model of an atom, Mr. S?

    Funded Apr 14, 2021

Thank you so much for your donation. The 3-D printer has gone to great use. It has been used for science projects and history dioramas as well as making presents for Mother's Day. My students learned how to transfer models from internet to printer and some even learned "Tinkercad" to build their own simple models for printing! We had a bump in the road with the extruder, but all is up and running again.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your generousity. Hope everyone has a safe and happy summer!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Solicito

  • Resource at 6ft Distance

    Funded Jan 12, 2021

Since receiving my Donor's Choose Items, I have been successfully able to deliver instruction while keeping a safe distance from my kids. Many of the kids are still very fearful of the possibility of contracting COVID-19 and so not need the extra stress of being in close proximity with their teacher or other students. This has allowed me to pull their assignments from Microsoft Teams and go over them with them using my tablet computer as a means to write and demonstrate right from my desk. This has been a game changer in a very tough year! I have drawn the attention of my fellow educators with the idea and many have decided to try and get projects like this funded for the same reason. The productivity in my resource class has increased with this addition.

Thank you again for your support!!! This could not have been possible this year without your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Solicito

This year I purchased a 3D printer for my home. I was astounded at what could be printed and began to research the academic applications for 3D printing. What I found was a wealth of free resources to help my students print the materials they need to make outstanding projects for their classes. I was also astounded by the shallow learning curve of 3D printing and how my students will be able to print their own items with little help from me. To get kids to WANT to learn....you have to get them to WANT to come to school. When I took a poll amongst my students concerning how many of them would be more excited about doing their projects if they had access to a 3D printer, it was pure excitement and a unanimous raise of hands. I truly think that it would not only be great for the kids, but for the reputation of the school to have a 3D printer for student use.
