Diverse Read
Funded Mar 4, 2020Thank you so much for your donation to our diverse reads project. It is so important to have picture books in a classroom that provide windows and mirrors for the students. I am constantly updating and trying to build a diverse library that meets the needs of my students. Students will be so excited to hear these diverse stories. Again, thank you so much for your donation to this diverse reads project. I am really looking forward to reading these fun new books with the students in this upcoming new year.”

Funded Jan 17, 2020Thank you so much for you donation to our Diverse Reads project. The students have really enjoyed having new and exciting books to read in class.
One of the skills that we practiced while reading the new books was finding the theme or the lesson learned by the main character in each story. Some of our favorite themes were found in these new books! We had some amazing class discussions about how the characters in many of the stories were proud of their differences.
Thank you again for your donations! The students really loved all of the new books!”

Cooperative Play Resources
Funded May 5, 2020Thank you so much for your donations to our cooperative play resources project. Although school looks very different this year, I am looking forward to each student having their own play dough at their seats! This will give them something fun to use during brain breaks. Even though they won't be able to collaborate as much when creating, it will be really helpful to have these resources in the future. Again, thank you for your donation and we look forward to using these fun games as soon as it is possible again!”

Funded May 6, 2019Thank you for your amazing donation to the Engaging Games for Reading Comprehension which funded reading comprehension games and math games for our 4th grade class. The students were all overjoyed when they found out that they would be able to play games (while learning) all day! They get to have fun while learning about important reading skills such as main idea, theme, cause and effect, comparing and contrasting, and much more. During our Reading Workshop time, students now have the opportunity to chose which skill that they think that they might need to practice the most by playing a board game. The joy and excitement would not have been possible without your donation and we are very appreciative.”

Funded Dec 30, 2018Thank you for your donation to our Diverse Reads project! Having new books in the classroom sparks a new excitement and love for learning. During independent reading time, students select books that they want to read based on their interests. The students love having new options and reading about diverse characters. Often, students will take the initiative to discuss how they are similar to a diverse character that they are reading about. Many morning meeting survey questions often involve thinking deeper and using empathy to relate to someone else. Students have referenced diverse characters from the text during these conversations and dive deeper into how that character felt about being different from others. Thank you again for your donation and supporting this project!”

As a way of celebrating Black History Month, we have decided to make an effort to incorporate black and diverse characters throughout the entire year! Books that feature diverse and interesting characters should not be only discussed for one month of the school year but must be staples in our library. Students have enjoyed picking out new and fun books that feature diverse characters! Thank you again for your donations!”

The students are especially enjoying the Growth Mindset books that were added to the library. Students are beginning to use Growth Mindset language in everyday learning like, "I just can't do it, yet!" This Growth Mindset attitude is carrying over throughout the day and having a positive impact on learning.
