  • Can I Get a P, Please?

    Funded Nov 20, 2018

My students were so excited when the new materials arrived. The materials, which focus on letters, have helped to enhance each of our centers and to reinforce letter recognition for them. Letter recognition is a foundational skill for 3 year olds and these materials are going a long way to help them recognize their letters and begin to make the sounds.

They have been putting letters on the refrigerator in the dramatic play center, searching for letters in the water table, snapping cubes in the toys and games center, stamping letters in the art center, and stringing beads in the discovery center. We have been adding the letter of the week to each of the materials as we introduce them. I have already begun to see growth in my students letter recognition.

Thank you again for your support in funding this project and helping my students in their letter recognition.”

  • Book, Book, on the Shelf, Now I Can See Myself

    Funded Sep 19, 2018

Thank you so much for helping to fund this project for my students. Students have been so excited to have picture books that represent themselves in our classroom library. The girls have particularly enjoyed having books about hair and enjoy discussing who's hair looks like like the hair styles in the pictures.

Students have access to these books all day long. They are available to them during free choice time as well as during center time. I have been reading one book a day to students so they are familiar with the story and have several students during free choice time ask me to read them a story from the collection.

Thank you again so much of providing these culturally relevant books to my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Snodgrass

  • Germs, Germs, Go Away

    Funded Sep 13, 2018

Thank you all so much for helping to get this project funded for us. With all of the baby wipes we received, we have been able to empower our students to take responsibilities for their spread of germs and clean up after their sneezes and coughs. With the Lysol wipes and spray, we are able to then go behind students to ensure the surface is disinfected.

Since we have been able to clean and disinfect on a more regular basis, we have seen a decrease in student illness and sickness. This means that students are not missing as much school and are able to maximize their learning opportunities.

Thank you again so much for your support and generosity and help to keep our kids healthy.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Snodgrass

  • Awards for Greatness

    Funded Sep 19, 2018

Thank you all so much for your support in funding our Awards for Greatness Project. We held our first awards ceremony yesterday and it was a wonderful success. We were able to give every student an award and had a wonderful parent turn out for the event. Students were so proud of themselves for receiving awards for their hard work and their parents were equally as proud.

With all of the parents who came to the awards ceremony, we used it as an opportunity to hold a parent meeting with them and provide them with resources to support their child's learning at home. With the resources parents and students received, it will help them grow even more academically so they can receive more awards in the winter.

Thank you all again so much for your support and to help make this project a success and memorable experience for our students and their families.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Snodgrass

  • You'll Only Puzzle Me Once

    Funded Sep 19, 2018

Thank you so much for the new puzzles. As a child, and even now, puzzles are one of my favorite activities. They provide for a perfect opportunity for me to bond with my students over a shared activity as well as teach them critical problem solving skills. With the new puzzles, I now have enough puzzles for us to work on puzzles as a whole class with extras for students to move to when they finish one. They were particularly excited about the Mickey Mouse puzzles that came.

We keep the majority of the puzzles in the Toys and Games center but now have enough to put in other centers as well. These puzzles are helping students to use logical and fine motor skills to move the pieces around find where they fit. While we are not quite ready for the interlocking puzzles yet, I now come January when students are ready for them, they will be just as excited.

Thank you again for your generosity and funding this project for my students.”

  • Board Books to Cure Our Boredom

    Funded Sep 19, 2018

I can not thank you enough for helping to get this project funded. Our students were so excited when the new books arrived and could not believe they were for them. Once we got them on the shelves, I had never seen them so engaged with books. We spent almost 45 minutes (which for a 3 year old feels like 3 hours) going over how we treat books, put them away, and of course reading them.

While we house some of these books in each of our centers, the majority of them reside in the library. Students have access to the books all day long through free choice and center time, but they make for a great transitional activity for students when we are finishing up an activity such as lunch or centers. Since they are working to build their early literacy skills and the books are a quick clean up, they make for the perfect activity while we are all waiting to get back together.

Thank you again so much for your donation to our book project and for helping to extend the love of reading to these young children.”

  • Food to Fuel our Future

    Funded Sep 8, 2018

Thank you so much for your donations and help to fund this project. It warms my heart to know that, while it may just be a small snack, my students have something to eat before they go home and will have something to eat over the weekend. The students were so excited when the new snacks arrived and have been so excited to have a choice and a variety of snacks to choose from.

I selected these specific snacks because they are snacks the children enjoy eating and are healthier choices then many of the snacks children have to choose from. I was also amazed to learn that some of my children had never had Goldfish or Pretzels before.

Thank you again for your support and for helping to fill my kids bellies before they leave for the day and over the weekends.”

  • Homework Boxes of Success

    Funded Apr 22, 2018

Thank you so much for your help in making this project a reality. Parents and children had so much fun at Back to School Night building their homework boxes and getting their materials to go home. Parents and children worked together to add their name to the box and to decorate it with stickers.

Students' faces were priceless when they learned they would get to take the boxes and their materials home. Several students even came back the next day with the full week's homework completed because they were so excited.

Thank you so much for help to support my students academic growth and to help them become life long scholars with great study habits.”

  • Photos of Success

    Funded May 10, 2018

Thank you so much for your support and generosity in helping to get this project funded. My students were so excited on the first day of school when they woke up from nap to find their pictures in their cubbies. They are also so excited to be able to see their pictures on the job chart, mystery question names, center folders, and journals. Since most of my students are just learning to recognize their names, have their pictures on their materials is a huge time saver in getting them the correct materials.

An added bonus to the printer has been being able to print things in color to enhance the classroom environment. We have started a new curriculum this school year and I have been able to create beautiful new center signs and center wheels to help students know where centers are.

Thank you again for your generosity and support. This project would not have been possible with out you.”

  • Projecting Our Future

    Funded Apr 19, 2018

Thank you so much for helping to get this project funded. My students have really enjoyed being able to see their songs and letters projected onto the big board rather than on the computer screen. It makes it so much easy for all of my students to see, especially when it comes to their letter and number recognition. As we have been working on our Pet/Vet theme we have also been able to watch videos of dogs getting groomed, getting a vet exam, and learn to be trained. As their teacher, it is so much fun to see them reenact what they saw in these videos into their play.

One added benefit of having this projector was being able to present to my early childhood education team at our most recent professional development. Having so many projects funded through donors choose, my principal asked me to present to our team on donors choose and posting projects. Three of the teachers were able to get their first projects submitted to donors choose by the end of the PD and are on their way to getting them funded.

Thank you again for your support.”

My students attend a Title I school in DC and are some of the most amazing children you will ever meet. They go through things on a daily basis that I couldn't imagine going through, yet come to school with a smile on their face and ready to learn because they know if they come to school they have someone they can count on. They know that I'm going to be there every day for them even if no one at home is their for them. My students learn just as much from me as I do from them every year.
