  • Paint by Sticks

    Funded Oct 28, 2022

Thank you for your generosity to our students and classroom. The students were so excited when these paint sticks arrived. At first they thought we had gotten a set of lipsticks. Once students learned how to use them, the craft and art projects haven't stopped. They are so quick and easy for students to use, we can use them on a daily basis, and even use them when we only have 10 minutes.

We have made classroom feelings monsters using our paint sticks to outline and decorate them. We've also been using them to make holiday crafts as well as everyday art during centers. We cannot thank you enough for your support of our project and helping to expand our students' creativity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Snodgrass

  • Sleep Tight, Don't Let the Cold Floor Bite

    Funded Sep 19, 2022

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! These new mats have been a life saver. They fit so nicely right in students' cubbies and there is still space for their coats and backpacks. The mats are also small enough that students can take responsibility for putting them down and picking them up. It has made the logistics of nap time so much easier and the transition more efficient.

The students were so excited when they saw the new mats, and even more excited they were able to get into their backpacks when they needed to. Students have enjoyed taking them out and putting them up each day.

Thank you again so much for your support and generosity. It takes a village to raise a Malcolm X Elementary School and we are so grateful you decided to be part of our village.”

  • Board Games That Won't Bring Boredom

    Funded Apr 11, 2022

We cannot thank you enough for your generosity and helping to fund our board game project. We have started off the school year playing Candy Land and working on learning colors and understanding the concept of one and two. Students having a blast with the game and have been asking to play more.

Last year, when the games first arrived, my students were so excited. They loved playing the insect memory game as we were in our insect theme. They also enjoyed playing Snug as a Bug in a Rug and all the funny faces of the bugs.

Thank you again for your support and generosity. It is because of people like we are able to provide students with these games to support their learning. It takes a village to raise a Malcolm X and are so grateful you choose to be part of our village.”

  • Baseballs for a Better Future

    Funded Apr 13, 2022

Thank you so much for supporting our our student athletes and our baseball program. The kids have been having so much fun playing catch with each other and creating games to practice catching and throwing. Without your support, they'd still be sharing a handful of balls with each other.

As our student athletes rotate through the pitching position, they are like kids on Christmas seeing the bright, white, new ball we have been using on game day. Thank you again for support of our student athletes. Without you, we would not be able to offer our students a baseball program. It takes a village to raise a Malcolm X and we are honored you chose to be part of our village.”

  • Covering All the Bases

    Funded Dec 22, 2021

We cannot thank you enough for funding our project to get bases for our baseball team. The kids were thrilled when the new bases arrived and were so grateful for the support they received from you. Without you, they would still been using carpet squares as bases. The kids have been using the bases to practice hard for games and to have home games against other teams.

With these new bases, the kids have been able to take responsibility for setting up the field for practice each day, and games each week. The kids have taken such pride in being part of the baseball team and playing the game now that their field looks like a real field.

Thank you again for your support and generosity to our school and program. It is because of people like you we are able to give our student athletics this opportunity.”

  • Discovering My Problem Solving Abilities

    Funded Dec 9, 2021

Thank you so much for your support and generosity to our classroom. These new materials and brought new life back into our discovery center and classroom. The students are currently using the new resources in our discovery center during center time. They are not only using them for there intended purpose of problem solving gears and creating a path, they are also causing students to work on social emotional skills as well. Since only 4 students can go to the center at a time, students are working on their patience and delaying their gratification while they wait for their time or day to use them. They are also building friendships and learning to share and take turns with the others in the center.

Students had a blast unpacking the new materials and sticking them to our magnetic stands. They couldn't believe they got new toys to play with and couldn't wait to explore and problem solve with them. Sometimes it is hard to get them out of centers and onto our next learning task because they do not want to leave the discovery center.

Thank you again so much for your support and generosity. These new materials have not only brought joy and engagement to this year's students, but they will continue to bring joy and engagement to students for years to come. It takes a village to raise a child and we are forever grateful you chose to be part of our village.”

  • Learning While Standing

    Funded Mar 31, 2022

These new stands are AMAZING!!!! I do not know how we have made it so long without them. It seems as if we are using them all day long, every day. The students start off free choice in the morning using them to work on counting and number recognition, or just making patterns with the magnets. By the time centers roll around, students are so eager to go to the discovery center to built with the gears or to create a tunnel for the balls to fall. When we move into our read aloud, students are using one of the stands to write and draw their ideas about the story, or to sequence the story.

The students were so excited when they first saw the stands. They woke up from nap one day and they were just there. They began to brainstorm ideas of how we could use them. When I pulled out magnetic resources to use them, they went all in with creative ideas, using them in ways I hadn't even thought of.

Thank you again so much for your support and generosity. It was been so much fun getting to see our students learn and grow in new ways because of these stands.”

  • Mac-imize Our Literacy Learning

    Funded Dec 3, 2021

We cannot thank you enough for the new laptop. Our knew laptop is supporting our kids academic growth in ways I could not have even imagined. Due to unforeseen circumstances, our speech pathologist has had to provide speech and language services to our students virtually this year. Without the new laptop, my students would not be able to receive their speech services. It has also been a blessing for my English Language Learners. We have been able to watch videos in French and American Sign Language to help expose them to more English as well as help me better support them by learning how to better communicate with them.

Aside from students language development, we have been able to use the laptop for literacy development as well. Students each helped to create their own "I like..." book where they selected pictures of things they liked. It has helped them to read left to right and begin to recognize print. We have also been using it with our projector to watch our ABC Mouse alphabet videos for our letters of the week.

Thank you again for your support and generosity. We cannot thank you enough.”

  • Retelling One Good Story at a Time

    Funded Jan 13, 2022

You would not believe how much our students have grown using these new materials. These new story telling kits have given students independent access to materials that allow them to retell the story on their own. Having the book accessible to them on a bookshelf with the materials allows for them to consult the book when necessary to check their sequence of events.

Often with young children, they know a lot more than they are willing or able to share. Having access to the pieces on their own, with a way to display them, has given me the opportunity to just sit back and watch and listen to students retell the story on their own. I'm able to see and hear exactly what students know on an independent level and can provide supports and scaffolds where necessary to support their growth.

We cannot thank you enough for helping to fund this project. The students have loved the opportunity to use the new story materials to retell the familiar stories but also to create their own stories as well.”

  • Culturally Relevant Dollhouse Play

    Funded Apr 3, 2022

We cannot thank you enough for your support and helping to fund this project!! When the dollhouse arrived, we had a great learning opportunity on how to read the instructions and put the dollhouse together. Students helped unpack all of the materials and consulted the directions to see which piece we needed and what step was next. We spent the entire morning putting the dollhouse together and engaging in play with the new materials.

When we started to unpack the box, one of my students kept bouncing in place saying "I'm so excited I can't handle it." Another student arrived while we were in the process of building the dollhouse and said "I almost missed all the fun."

The next steps for us are to move the dollhouse out of the middle of our library rug and find a permanent place for it in the classroom. Students will continue to have access to the dollhouse and people to engage in play throughout their day and for years to come with new groups of students. Thank you again for your support of this project!!”

My students attend a Title I school in DC and are some of the most amazing children you will ever meet. They go through things on a daily basis that I couldn't imagine going through, yet come to school with a smile on their face and ready to learn because they know if they come to school they have someone they can count on. They know that I'm going to be there every day for them even if no one at home is their for them. My students learn just as much from me as I do from them every year.
