  • Preschool Pet Vet

    Funded May 23, 2013

"I wanna adopt a dog!" "I adopted a bird. Look at it fly!" My students enjoyed playing with the jumbo pets so much. Their creativity amazed me as they used different manipulatives to accessories their animals.

My students and I have been using the resources in various ways throughout the classroom. I have been using the books to help build students' background knowledge about pets and how to care for them. Students have been using the books for buddy reading (reading books to each other) and as resources to answer questions they have about veterinarians and various pets.

Most of my students have never had a pet and these materials have allowed for me to put real pets into their hands. While they might just be plastic animals, my students are treating them like they are really alive and shouting "HELP! HELP! My dog got off his leash and ran away." The entire class then begins to search for the dog by calling it's name and looking for where they student hide the animal. The majority of the books we received are also nonfiction books. These books allow for students to see pictures of real life animals and people interacting with each other.

Thank you so much for your support and generosity. You have allowed many of my students to adopt a pet and learn to care for an animal.”

  • Can You Pass The Tape, Please?

    Funded Sep 17, 2013

"What pretty colors." "Ms. S., is that for us?" "I need tape to fix the car." These are just a few of the things my students said when we received the tape from this project. They were so excited at all of the pretty colors and the opportunity to use the tape to create their own props.

Students started out using the tape to close boxes they were using to make props for our family theme. They made a television for the living room, a washer and dryer for the laundry room, and sink for the bathroom. Once the props were made, they moved to using the tape to fix props. They have fixed the car/delivery truck several times using the tape to close tears and reattach the wheels and steering wheel.

An added bonus to this project is that my students have been able to enhance their fine motor skills. The first few times we used the tape they struggled to tear the tape from the dispenser. Most have now master the art of tearing the tape from the dispensers and for those who are still struggling, they quickly discovered they can use the scissors to cut the tape off just as easily.

These resources have allowed my students to take their learning into their own hands. They are able to decide what to create and how to make the props they want for their centers. These resources have also allowed me to give students the freedom to create their own props through using the tape without having to worry about running out.

Thank you all so much for your donations and support. It is because of amazing and generous people like you that I am able to give my students these opportunities.”

  • Dramatic Play Essentials

    Funded Jul 31, 2013

Thank you all so much for your support in funding my Dramatic Play Essentials project. I could not believe the joy and excitement I saw on my students face when they saw the strollers and car seats they could use during our family theme. That same joy and excitement was on their face when we moved into our grocery store theme and they had shopping carts to use for shopping.

Currently, the students major interest is in using the soft tool set to fix the grocery store delivery truck and baking cupcakes in our bakery. With the cupcakes, students are able to demonstrate their ability to match and sort colors and shapes as well as use their cognitive skills to put the cupcakes back together again.

Thank you all again so much for your donations to this project. My students have been so engaged during their center time acting out real life scenarios because of the materials I got from the donations you made. My students and I thank you greatly.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Snodgrass

  • Books: The Tools of the Mind

    Funded May 1, 2013

Brown Bear, Bear Bear, What do you see? "I see a pink panther looking at me." "I see a choo choo train looking at me." These are just a few of the creative story extensions that my students came up with for Brown Bear, Brown Bear.

Not only were my students able to use the books for story extensions, they also asked to use them for buddy reading. Buddy reading allowed for them to work with a classmate to read or create the story for the pictures and share with each other.

These books really allowed for my students to enjoy reading because they had new books to read. I am always amazed at the creative and imaginative stories that my students come up with the go with the pictures of a book.

Thank you for your support to my classroom. It is because of generous people like you that I can provide the best opportunities for my students and their learning.”

  • Fun at Recess

    Funded May 1, 2013

"Ms. S., can we play with these again tomorrow?" The day after we got our materials it happened to be raining and we could not go outside for recess. I do not think I had seen my students have so much fun during recess since the first day of school. They did not want to stop playing.

The indoor recess materials made my students light up with excitement. They were able to enjoy their recess in the hallway with the new materials. They played ring toss, rolled balls through the tunnel board, and worked to catch a ball in a cup.

These materials worked to help develop my students gross motor and coordination skills. It also allowed for me to have differentiated opportunities for my students, meeting each of their developmental needs.

Thank you so much for your support to my classroom and for all of the support.”

  • Sensory Sensation

    Funded May 1, 2013

My students and I cannot express to you our gratitude. They loved being able to play with the sensory toys in the water table. They loved making drinks with the sensory balls and spaghetti from the noodles. They called them slimy and could not stop giggling and laughing as they ran their fingers and hands through them.

My students spent the last few weeks of school using the water materials in the water table and literally flooding the classroom with water having so much fun with them. Some of my students also found confront with the stuff animal during difficult transitions. I have no doubt that my students this coming school year will have just as much fun.

These materials have allowed for me to help my students with controlling strong emotions and find something that will help calm them down and make them feel secure. They also had the opportunity explore the science of water. I look forward to having these materials this year on the first day of school so my students can start to learn this from day one.

Thank you again for your support and donation to my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Snodgrass

  • Boys and Their Toys

    Funded May 1, 2013

Thank you so much for your generosity and your donation to my classroom. These materials have greatly helped my boys, and girls, engage in their center play. They love the new toys and have been using them a lot in the block center.

My students from last year loved using the materials to build towns and cities in the block center. I saw my students build some of the most creative structures and have some of the most engaging play I had seen all year. I have no doubt that this will continue with my students who will be starting in August.

Since these materials were new and everyone wanted to play with them, this was a wonderful opportunity for me to assist my students in developing their communication and conflict resolution skills. Within a week, students we able to solve their own conflicts in the block center with the new materials and communicate their needs.

Thank you again for your support and donation.”

  • Circle Time Excitement

    Funded Apr 4, 2012

My students and I cannot thank you enough for your donation to our classroom. The circle time activity bucket and pocket charts have made circle time so much more enjoyable. Everyday students show their excitement for the materials when they get to use them.

It is so hard to get the materials that students need and enjoy into the classroom these days with smaller and smaller budgets. It's because of people like you that we are able to get the materials that students want and need.

Thank you again so much for your donation to us.”

    With gratitude,

  • Apples to Zebras Letter Learning

    Funded Mar 15, 2012

We cannot express to you how thankful we are for your generous donation to our classroom. The puzzles and sound tubs are used every day in our room. We've used them to build our letter-sound recognition as well as to develop our problem-solving skills. It is amazing to see them looking at the puzzle pieces and making the initial sound to see what letter puzzle it corresponds with.

Like most schools in our nation, we are experience budget shortfalls and would never have been able to purchase these wonderful materials without you. Thank you again so much for your generosity and your commitment to the success of our youngest learners.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Snodgrass

  • Learning in the Sand

    Funded Dec 19, 2011

Thank you so much for your donation to our Learning in the Sand project. My students have loved playing and learning in the sand. The materials that your donations helped purchase have been put to great use and have become one of the most popular centers in our room. The first thing that we did was to set the table of sand on the floor so that each student could put their feet in it and see what it felt like to have their feet in the sand.

We spent the first part of our school year talking about enclosures and structures. We are slowly moving towards using the castle molds and sand to build structures and enclosures. At this point though, students have been so engaged just practicing to use the materials that we haven't quite made it there yet.

The letter and number shells have also been a great asset to assess my students knowledge of letters, sounds, and numbers. I have 1 student in my class who cannot verbally communicate and one who makes the choice not to. The shells have been a great way for them to communicate with me and for me to assess what they know. I have them dig through the sand to find a special letter, sound, or number for me. I have learned that they know a lot more then they were communicating to me using other materials.

Thank you again so much for your donations to help my students. Without your help, they never would have been able to have these experiences.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Snodgrass

My students attend a Title I school in DC and are some of the most amazing children you will ever meet. They go through things on a daily basis that I couldn't imagine going through, yet come to school with a smile on their face and ready to learn because they know if they come to school they have someone they can count on. They know that I'm going to be there every day for them even if no one at home is their for them. My students learn just as much from me as I do from them every year.
