Help Furnish Our House
Funded May 28, 2016Dear Donors,
Thank you so much for your donation to our classroom. Students have been having a blast this school year using the new doll house furniture and acting out familiar scenarios within the doll house. Throughout the different parts of the day, almost all of my students choose to visit the doll house because of these new materials.
When students first saw the new doll house furniture, they immediately started making connections to things they had in their house. It has also helped for them to develop new vocabulary words with the different materials that came with the furniture.
Thank you again for your support of our classroom. As the year progresses, we will continue to use the doll house as an area of fun and learning.”

Writing Our Way To The Top Everyday
Funded May 16, 2016Dear Donors,
Thank you all so much for supporting my classroom and the students in it. Graphics Practice has never been easier with these new materials and I can see the growth in their fine motor skills already just with making the logistics of this activity easier.
When my students first saw the new erasers, they were fascinated with them being able to magnetically stick to the board. And they are still fascinated by the dry erase crayons and that they can write with a crayon on their white boards. These two simple changes to Graphics Practice have increased the amount of time we can actually spend writing because we are not searching for erasers or replacing markers that have dried up.
The majority of my students have already master writing the first 6 letters that we have covered this year. As the year moves on and students begin to master more and more letters, I am confident that they will be writing their names by the end of the school year as well as words to communicate their message.
Thank you again for supporting my classroom and the amazing students that are in it.”

You Can't Go Back Once Play-Doh is Mixed...But Why Would You?
Funded Nov 12, 2014Thank you all so much for your support and dedication to our classroom. My student were so excited about the Play-Doh and the awesome tools that went along with it. That had had limited exposure to working with Play-Doh until the supplies came in and it quickly became their favorite thing during centers.
My students are using the materials during their make believe center play. They have been able to make baked goods for the bakery, complete dental work while visiting the dentist, and babies for the nursery. These have helped to facilitate and increase their vocabulary and communication skills during centers. It has also helped them to refine their fine motor skills and use their imagination.
Thank you again for your support.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Play-Doh and 8 other donors.Math + You = A Bright Future
Funded Oct 22, 2014Thank you so much for the support of our classroom and for helping my students to enhance their math skills. My students were so excited about the new materials they received and even more excited that they could use them on their own during independent work time.
We have been using the materials for small group instruction. Once students have learned to use the materials with the teacher they are then able to use them in an independent group to enhance their skills. The materials are also available for use during free choice time.
These materials have allowed for specific instruction on objectives and releasing students to learn on their own. Student math scores have grown at least 2 levels since we have gotten these materials.
Thank you again for your support.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Chevron DC and 2 other donors.I Can Teach Myself to Read at Three
Funded Sep 4, 2014Thank you so much for your support for this literacy project. My students have been able to use the literacy kits you helped purchase to facilitate their own learning and love being able to independently use the materials. Students are building their vocabulary skills, knowledge of rhyming words, letter recognition and early reading skills every time they use these materials.
My students favorite activities are the puzzle that they can complete on their own to help their learning. With the work they have been doing with these kits, I can see the connections they are making when reading stories and having conversations.
Thank you again for your support to our classroom.”

HEY!!! Where's Waldo?
Funded Jun 23, 2014Thank you so much for your contribution to our classroom. I don't think I have every seen my students so excited about books before. Instead of my students constantly asking where a specific book is, they are able to find it by themselves and spending more time reading.
My students are using the book bins for budding reading, which is not only helping them to find their favorite books, it allows them to sort their books by genre or topic. Having this bins also allows them to use the buddy reading books during free choice time as well because they are able to sort them back in to their correct bins. They also love to go to the big book rack to find their favorite stories when it is their day to be the librarian and decide which book we are going to read.
Thank you again so much for your contribution to our classroom. These materials are allowing us all to spend more time reading and less time looking for the book we want.”

Reduce and Reuse
Funded Dec 18, 2013Thank you so much for the donation to my project. My kids were so excited about being able to take orders and sign in at the doctor's office. Being able to laminate things for them in their centers has allowed for them to have continuous access to them without me having to worry about making copies to have in the centers.
I have also been able to laminate all of the necessary display materials for their Tools of the Mind Curriculum. With these materials being laminated, I will not have to reproduce them for next year. It has also allowed for students to access these materials to facilitate their play.
Thank you again for your support.”

Help! We've Fallen and We Can't Get Up!
Funded Jun 29, 2013"Quick!! The baby needs a doctor!" "Open your mouth and say ahhh." "The doctor will see you now." These are all things my students have said during their doctor theme. With the materials you all helped purchase my students have been able to fully engage in their roles as doctors, nurses, and patients.
Students are using the materials to care for patients at the hospital. Some are taking on roles as the caregiver while others are taking on roles of the patient. We even have some acting as the ambulance driver and paramedic racing to the hospital. They are able to use real props to help facilitate their roles and scenarios.
This project has allowed me to help build my students background knowledge with the books that I received. Students have also been able to use the books for buddy reading. Several students have even been using the books as references to see how to put casts on. The props have also allowed for them to fully engage in roles and scenarios.
Thank you all so much for your generosity and support of this project.”

Prop Building
Funded Aug 6, 2013"This play dough feels funny!" "Can I make a cookie for the bakery?" "I made an ice cream cone!" Students' creativity ran wild as they created props for their bakery and donut centers. They cannot wait to have the opportunity to make more props for their centers during the next theme.
Students used the modeling clay to make cookies and donuts for their bakery and donut center. During center time, students are then selling and buying these baked goods as a "treat". When they discover they want something new in the bakery, they are then able to make it to sell. The great thing about modeling clay for me is, when students accidentally drop the item, it doesn't shatter into a hundred pieces.
Having these self-created models of treats students can buy have allowed my students to take ownership of their centers and helped to engage them in their center. They always want to buy the item then helped create.
Thank you all so much for your donations and help to make this project a success.”

May I Take Your Order, Please?
Funded Jul 18, 2013"Would you like white or wheat bread?" "We don't deliver." "This is like lacing a shoe." Students have been having a blast making sandwiches at their Subway restaurant, pizza at their Pizza Hut restaurant, and trying to tie a bow once they have laced their cards. These materials have really allowed for them to engage fully in their restaurant theme and take on real roles and actions.
With these resources, students are no longer using construction paper to make pizzas and sandwiches. They are able to use real materials that give a sandwich and pizza a real 3-D look rather than a flat paper look. Center time has become so much fun for students and they cannot wait for the next day to go to another center to try something new.
These materials have boosted student learning and my teaching by allowing students to stay engaged in their centers longer. When they are engaged longer, I have more of an opportunity to build their vocabulary and communication skills. Students are also learning real life skills they can use when they attend a restaurant with their family.
Thank you all so much for your donations to this project and making it a success. Without you, this would not have been possible.”

Mrs. Snodgrass
