  • Positive Behavior = Positive Rewards

    Funded Jan 15, 2017

Thank you so much for your support in our school wide positive behavior intervention system. With your support, we were able to provide incentives for over 250 students to show SOAR behavior at our school and work towards incentives.

Our PK3 through 2nd grade students were really excited about these incentives and were able to work towards earning them each month. The girls loved the slap bracelets and the boys loved the airplanes. And our entire school was excited about the finger lights and could not wait to try them out. Almost all of them were so excited they had earned these items, or perhaps even 2 or 3 items and could take them home with them.

Thank you again for your support of our students and school.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Snodgrass

  • Positive Behavior = Positive Rewards

    Funded Feb 3, 2017

Thank you so much for the support of our school. The students were so excited about the new materials they could earn in the school store. The technology was a huge hit with our 3rd through 5th grade students. Some students decided to save their points the first time they visited the store so that they could save up and earn enough to buy the headphones, speakers, or the watches. For our students who struggle more with self control, these materials gave them something to work towards and helped them to improve their behavior on a daily and weekly basis.

Thank you again so much for your support in encouraging positive behavior in our students.”

    Mrs. Snodgrass

  • Drumming Our Way to the Top

    Funded Nov 30, 2016

Thank you so much for your support of this project and our school's drum line program. Without you, our program would be near no existence. The students were so excited and grateful when they saw the new drum heads and got to participate in putting them on. After months and months of using drum heads that were falling a part, they were so proud to have new ones to show off.

With all of the new drum heads, we were able to include 10 more students to participate on a regular basis into the drum line. We were also able to start preparing for city wide parades and competitions throughout the city.

Thank you again so much for your support of our program and our students. It is because of people like you we are able to provide this extra curricular activity for our students and provide them with a brighter future.”

  • Putting Pins in Our Learning

    Funded Oct 29, 2016

Thank you so much for your generous donations to support our classroom bulletin board project. Our students are currently using our bulletin boards to display theme related materials in each of our 6 centers. Our classroom is also using the bulletin boards to highlight our "homevisit homies" who have completed homevisits as well as to communicate important information to parents. We also have interactive bulletin boards throughout our room to support the learning of our objectives each week.

Our students were so excited to see the new bulletin boards in each of the centers and commented on how nice they look. They are also excited each week as the objectives change, the interactive boards change as well. With the corkboard it makes it easy to change the interactive boards more frequently to keep students engaged in the centers.

As the year moves on, we will change the center boards 2 more times for our remaining two themes and our interactive boards will continue to change with the literacy and math objectives for the week. The best part is, come next school year these boards will be already to go with our next group of students.

Thank you again so much for your support and helping to make learning more enjoyable for our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Snodgrass

  • Pinching Our Way to a Proper Writing Grip

    Funded Dec 23, 2016

Thank you so much for your support and donations for this project and for helping my students to get a better grasp on their writing skills. Students were so excited when they saw the tweezers and balls and have been having so much fun using them. Even though we have only had them a couple of weeks, I am already starting to notice an improvement with some of my students writing skills and pencil grip.

Currently we are using the tweezers and balls as a free choice activity if students want to use them. We are also using them as an intervention for students who need support with their writing grip. This activity is a fun way to improve their writing without even having to write.

As we move on towards the end of the school year, I know my students are going to master their writing grip because of these tweezers and ball kits and be on their way to not only writing their names but also to writing and drawing their own stories. Thank you again for your support and donations. I could not do this work and support my students like this if it wasn't for generous people like you.”

    Mrs. Snodgrass

  • SAFETY FIRST: Help us Travel Safely

    Funded Jun 15, 2016

    Dear Donors,

Thank you so much for supporting our classrooms. With your help, we were able to provide safety vest for all four prekindergarten classrooms. That's 70 students that you have helped to keep safe while traveling on field trips as well as at school functions. Each class has a different color vest so we can easily pick out our students, as well as keep an eye on students that still belong to our school.

When the students saw the vests, they didn't want to take them off. They enjoyed wearing them so much, especially when they saw adults on the train wearing safety vests to help keep them safe while working.

Thank you again so much for your support and helping to keep 70 three and four year olds safe while traveling about our nations capital.”

    Mrs. Snodgrass

  • Sleep Tight, Don't Let the Cold Floor Bite

    Funded Aug 14, 2016

    Dear Donors,

Thank you so much for supporting our classroom and helping to purchase new mats for us. Every student in our room has a brand new mat that they use at nap time everyday. This helps to keep them off the cold, hard floor and get a better nap, which is critical for some of them to have a meaningful educational experience.

The students were so excited when they saw the new mats because they fit right into their cubbies. They are also enjoying and take pride in being able to get all of their stuff for nap and put it away once nap is finished.

Thank you again for your support and helping to make nap time an independent success for students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Snodgrass

My students attend a Title I school in DC and are some of the most amazing children you will ever meet. They go through things on a daily basis that I couldn't imagine going through, yet come to school with a smile on their face and ready to learn because they know if they come to school they have someone they can count on. They know that I'm going to be there every day for them even if no one at home is their for them. My students learn just as much from me as I do from them every year.
