Shadow Puppetry: No Strings Attached!
Funded Dec 3, 2020First of all, thank you donors for your kindness! This project would not have been made possible without your support!
Never would we have imagined a year ago that teaching and learning would be so reliant on technology. Teachers scrambled to convert paper and pencil lessons to the SkiesLearn app and Google slides. Given a tech device and a hotspot, our students and parents also had to learn how to use Zoom and upload their work online. I admire the quality of lessons presented by teachers and for extending help to students who need extra support, and to the families for persevering thru tech glitches, loss of internet connection, and power outages!
We know that students are missing their friends and feeling isolated by quarantine. Our district has emphasized social-emotional learning. Art has been a great way for students to reduce stress and get their creative juices flowing. Our shadow puppetry project has been successful, and has brought students' talents and imagination out of the shadows! Students have enjoyed making puppets and acting out stories from their readers as well as from their own scripts. Some students have learned to make videos and recorded their puppet shows as class presentations!
This opportunity to highlight our artistry during the darkness of the pandemic has been made possible by you - our wonderful donors. Thank you for your support, empathy, and love during this most unprecedented time. We are touched by the kindness of strangers. You fill us with hope!”

Distance Learning in an Instance!
Funded Jul 13, 2020When I found out that Radio Disney funded my project, the song "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah...My, oh my, what a wonderful day" popped in my head! You made my day!
Through your generous donation, you are also providing many glitch free days of distance learning for my special education students. With online classes starting in two weeks, I will be zooming with Kinder through fifth grade students in large and small group sessions. Your donation is timely and will help me to deliver academic, socio-emotional and digital citizenship lessons to students with autism, learning disabilities and attention issues. The new laptop replaces one with a dead battery, limited memory, and connectivity problems. Now we can focus on learning and not on technical difficulties! I can coach my students to navigate through various platforms and apps so they can access and do their work on the internet. Learning with technology is the new normal, and an essential lifelong skill!
I just finished teaching summer school when the laptop arrived, and the kids were "all ears" when they heard that Radio Disney funded the project! They were so tickled!
And now, "heigh-ho, heigh-ho" it's off to work I go – with the "bare necessities" of distance learning – a laptop! Thanks Radio Disney for honoring teachers as ARDYs Heroes for Change through your donation. Thank you for being my hero by funding this project and making my dream of a new laptop come true! (See my thank you tweet on 8/7/20!)”

This classroom project was brought to life by The Walt Disney Company.Wild About Wildlife: Pins and Pennies for P-22!
Funded Nov 27, 2018Happy New Year! We apologize that our thank you note has taken a bit of time, but our machine arrived right at winter break. Then, upon return from our vacation, the Nature Club students, families and teacher sponsors were out on the LAUSD teacher strike line. We are now back at school and slowly trying to attain normalcy.
When I announced that our project was fully funded - thanks to you - the students were very tickled that complete strangers would take interest in their project, especially a tattoo company in Brooklyn, New York!
The Nature Club students were extremely excited to open the box, and we are all learning to use the machine (which is a bit tricky). Hopefully soon, we will turn into a button factory! The naturalists are also inspired by your work, and want to make buttons with nature tattoo designs! Thank you so much for your generosity and supporting children in public schools.”

From Tablet To Tablet
Funded Apr 28, 2012My students and I owe a world of thanks to our generous donors for funding the Samsung Galaxy Tablet. My students can't wait to use it to find information for their research reports, essays and project-based learning presentations!
The students have been hoping for and waiting for this item since January, and wondered if it would ever get funded. Now that the end of the school year is just around the corner, the students are busy learning how to tap the touchscreen and trying their hand at typing on the keyboard dock so they can be ready to tackle their assignments using the Galaxy Tab next year.
"Tablet" has become a new and frequently used word with my students. When I first showed them the Galaxy Tab, the students were not quite sure what it was. But now, they are in awe of this piece of technology. They are really thrilled to know that people whom they have never met have invested in their education. Not only have you provided my class with a powerful learning tool, you have made them feel special by believing in them, and this has fueled their motivation to work harder at school. Thank you for your kindness and generosity!
