  • A Developing Baby

    Funded May 10, 2024

Thank you for helping to provide my students with this engaging activity! My students love hands-on learning like this.

The Science Take-Out Life Support for a Developing Baby was a perfect kit for my students to learn about their reproductive systems and what can affect a developing baby. All of the materials required were included and nothing required specialized equipment. My students were fascinated by the activity, which sparked an awesome discussion. The locks were great for our Breakout Boxes/Escape Rooms and the book bins have helped to organize materials.

    We appreciate your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Reed

  • Mining for Minerals

    Funded Jul 30, 2024

Thank you so much for helping provide my students with this engaging, hands-on learning opportunity. This activity will spark excellent discussions about environmental responsibility and financial decision-making, which students will need to consider throughout their lives. Some materials like the lab scales and wax melter can be used for other activities, increasing the impact of your donation.

    Your kindness is appreciated!”

  • A Place for Everything

    Funded Jun 4, 2024

Thank you so much for helping me to organize my space! I was so excited when it arrived.

While I haven't finished organizing the books yet, the books bins are going to be so useful for students. I will label each of the bins with the genre or scientific discipline so that students can easily find books that they need next year. This shelving unit is mobile, which will help when it needs to be moved as I won't have to take the books off the shelves. Thank you for helping me to organize my classroom library!

    Your kind generosity is appreciated!”

  • Senior Celebration

    Funded May 12, 2024

You are incredible! Thank you for helping to celebrate my senior students and their accomplishments this year.

I have had these seniors for the two years of the AP Capstone program and have seen them grow so much! Writing individual, personalized messages for each student was important to me. The Star Wars theme goes back to my first year with them when we had a "May the 4th Be With You" celebration before their College Board End-of-Course exam, so it was special. The keychain had a special charm that reflected each students' AP Research paper. After I gave them to them, students were excited to show me their new keychain and thanked me (you!) for them. This has been a very special group of young people and I appreciate your assistance in helping to celebrate them.

    I appreciate your kindness!”

  • Environmentalists in the Making

    Funded May 10, 2024

Wow! This was an exciting delivery for my students. Thank you so much for contributing to their education.

My students were thrilled to see these boxes come in--they know by now that I strive to provide them with hands-on activities and laboratory investigations. My students were inquisitive about which activity we would do first. While most of these kits will be used in my Environmental Science class next year, we did some of the ones that are connected to Anatomy & Physiology, like the air pollution one. They then did additional research regarding asthma, which many of my students can relate to.

Thank you for helping to provide them with these authentic, real-world, hands-on activities!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Reed

  • For The Trees

    Funded Apr 23, 2024

Thank you so much for supporting this project! My students were so surprised to see the new bookshelf in the classroom. They thought it was "very sleek" and "much better" than our last one.

The books have been really helpful for my students who wanted to learn about other scientific topics that we wouldn't be covering in the A&P curriculum. Students chose some specific activities to try and really enjoyed learning about their topics of interest. The books will be useful in our Environmental Science class next year.

    We appreciate your kindness!”

  • Diagnosis Murder: The Fetal Pig Autopsy

    Funded Dec 10, 2023

Thank you so much for helping my students have this amazing opportunity to dissect fetal pigs. It was truly an awesome culmination of all that they have learned in Anatomy & Physiology.

Students were so excited to dissect the fetal pigs. They demonstrated their dissection and observation skills, as well as conceptual knowledge as I asked questions as they dissected during this lab practical. Students communicated with each other and were able to identify key organs like the heart, kidneys, and brains. We dissected these organs throughout the year, so students made connections to what they had previously seen and how they were connected to other organs that we had not dissected separately.

    We appreciate your incredible generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Reed

  • Grant Writing for Teachers

    Funded May 7, 2024

Thank you so much for helping me to further my education! Because of you, I earned 2 graduate credits from Idaho State University and learned beneficial information.

This course was self-paced and online, so I could complete it when I had time. There were some pretty awesome things about this course that I will use in the future. There were many resources in the modules, but one of the most useful was a list of available grants. I will refer to it as I plan my courses for next year. I made a calendar of grant deadlines to avoid missing any of them.

Thank you for your kind generosity!”

  • Art Meets Science: A Winning Combo

    Funded Mar 27, 2024

Thank you for helping my students make models in my class! They absolutely love model-making and ask when we will be doing model-making again.

We've made models for most systems of the body. Creating and analyzing model helps students understand how the organs of each system are connected, as well as remembering location, learning essential vocabulary terms, and the functions of each organ. My students were excited to help me build the mobile shelving unit which is perfect for works in progress. My AP Research student found the Arts-Based Research book really helpful. The stencils have been a huge hit and have already gotten a lot of usage.

    We appreciate your kind generosity!”

  • Organ System Models

    Funded Mar 27, 2024

Thank you for helping my students make models in my class! They absolutely love model-making and ask when we will be doing model-making again.

We've made models for most systems of the body. Creating and analyzing model helps students understand how the organs of each system are connected, as well as remembering location, learning essential vocabulary terms, and the functions of each organ. They really appreciate our new pencil sharpener -- my students use their new colored pencils a lot! The craft mats have helped to keep our table tops clean, especially when they work with clay or the glue gun. My students were excited to help me build the mobile shelving unit; now onto organizing all of our supplies!

    Your kind support is appreciated!”

My students come from all areas of Baltimore City. Nearly all of my students qualify for free and reduced lunches. My students come to school everyday and they thrive on hands-on activities! You can see their engagement and excitement with art projects, laboratory investigations, online learning, and hands on activities! My students always ask if they will be dissecting anything in my class; this year, I hope to tell them "yes!" Dissection is an engaging and authentic experience that my students are rarely able to do. Incorporating art and technology with other hands on activities and labs will allow my students to make real connections to what they are learning and perhaps inspire them to enter a career in science.
