  • Good to Have on Hand: Gloves for Labs

    Funded Dec 31, 2021

Thank you so much for providing these gloves for labs as well as a comfy bean bag chair for flexible seating.

My students LOVE "doing science!" Hands-on activities and labs like the sheep brain dissection are engaging. Students who have told me that they "really don't like science" are engaged when they are doing hands-on activities. These gloves allow students to safely do and learn from these activities. We would not be able to do many labs without these gloves! They are currently working on creating their own experiments. A demonstration uses fewer gloves, but doing their own experiment is more authentic and interesting. Flexible seating helps to keep my students focused--the bean bag chair is a popular spot. Thank you for helping to keep my students engaged, actively learning, and focused!

    We appreciate your kind generosity!”

    Ms. Reed

  • Bridging the Digital Divide, Part 8

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

Thank you so much for helping to provide materials that my students need! The Chromebook, masks, and book have been so helpful to have for my students.

The Chromebook has been an awesome addition to our classroom. Students use them every day in my class. Currently, my AP Seminar students are finding background sources for their individual research reports, which will then help their group develop a solution to the problem that they chose to research for their first Performance Task. My AP Research students are in the midst of typing their papers and preparing their presentations while organizing the data that they are collecting for their student-developed research. My Independent Study students are completing a wide variety of projects for their self-selected topics, many of which require a device for background research, creation, running a program, etc. All of my students use the Chromebooks to access Google Classroom, Nearpod, Blooket, and Calm.

I have students that ask for a replacement mask frequently. Having a stock of masks in my class has made it possible for me to accommodate them! The book has been popular to borrow from my classroom library!

Thank you!! Your generosity is appreciated.”

  • Hidden Figures

    Funded Nov 7, 2021

Thank you so much for giving my students this amazing gift! You are incredible! Hidden Figures is such a popular movie with my students. It was exciting to see them so engaged in reading a book, especially one that highlights the contributions of persons of color just like them.

My students were so excited to see what was inside the box. "I love that movie!" None of them had read the book previously. Encouraging my students to read more is a priority--it helps when it is something they actually want to read. They loved our NASA-based activities that went along with the book. We had many awesome discussions after they read chapters.

    Your kindness is appreciated!”

  • Can You STEM It?

    Funded Oct 25, 2021

Thank you for supporting STEM education! My students are always excited when we receive boxes--they volunteer to bring them to our class and open them.

My students love learning about STEM topics through hands-on activities! They have been so engaged with these activities. Students were really interested in learning how to suture and it's a go-to item for students that have finished their work early. Several have told me that they "definitely!" want to be a nurse now. Others are interested in animal sciences and were really excited to dissect an owl pellet. My engineering-focused students have had a lot of fun learning about bridge construction and robotics.

Your kindness helped to make these experiences possible for my students. I cannot thank you enough for that!”

  • The Doctor Is In!

    Funded Oct 18, 2021

Thank you for helping my students to explore a high-interest topic like biomedical sciences with these awesome hands-on kits!

So many of my students are interested in entering a medical career field. "I feel like a doctor!" was a frequent comment while they were working to fix bones, learning aseptic techniques, and other activities. "This is fun!" and "This is cool!" were other statements made by several students. It has been awesome to see students so engaged while they are learning. The mobile workstation has been a welcome addition to our classroom, letting students choose to sit or stand while they work.

    We appreciate your kindness!”

  • Breakout Space Revamp, Part 2

    Funded Oct 11, 2021

Thank you for caring about my students! This project helps all of the students in my school as they have access to the breakout space.

The bookcases have helped to keep items organized and accessible. The mobile workstations are a huge hit, with many students (and teachers!) asking for more of them. They are an awesome option for flexible seating, letting students sit or stand as they choose. This flexibility helps students to focus. Chromebooks are used every day for a variety of activities--students have delved into their research, interacted using Nearpod, and so much more! The mobile workstation allows a safe space for the Chromebook to be used. Stress balls and chess sets are great calming items, supporting students' mental health and well-being.

    We appreciate your kind generosity!”

  • Clean Up Crew

    Funded Sep 28, 2021

Having a clean, hygienic classroom is essential to keeping students and staff in school. Thank you for helping to contribute to ensuring that we have the necessary cleaning supplies!

With your help, I have disinfectant wipes and spray that can be used on various surfaces. In my class, we do many hands-on activities that would require cleaning. This year, I also have students wiping their tables down before they leave the class. My students like having roles and responsibilities in class, so a student from each table will get a wipe or spray/towel in the last few minutes of class to clean their group's table. This helped keep us all safe in my classroom!

    We appreciate your generous kindness!”

  • Just Book It

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

Thank you for helping my students go on an adventure in class or at home! I have worked to create a diverse classroom library and you have helped me to do it!

Offering books of interest is a priority of mine. Having student input as to what goes in our classroom library is also important. Your donation helped to add books that students actually want to read as well as some reference items. Students may read during class when they finish assignments, or sometimes when they need a break. Students can also borrow books to read at home. My classroom library is becoming an even more popular spot and that's because of donors like you!!

Thank you for your kind generosity!”

  • Bridging the Digital Divide, Part 5

    Funded Oct 22, 2021

Thank you for generously donating to this project. My students are excited whenever boxes come--they know that there's something inside that will help them on their academic journey.

The STEM activity kits are a big hit! My students really enjoy having hands-on learning opportunities and these were perfect for that! It's so cool to see students teaching other students about their projects. Some have expressed that they are now considering a STEM field because of doing these activities!! The Chromebook is useful for a wide variety of activities. The mobile workstation has been amazing! More students want the opportunity to use one as a flexible seating option.

We appreciate you! Thank you for caring about my students!!”

  • Building a Home Library

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

"Please tell the donors THANK YOU!" I wish you could have heard the squeal of excitement when the books that my students requested were on their desks. They are so excited to have books that they get to keep!

Thank you for caring about my students! Not only have you helped to develop their literacy skills, but you have also encouraged my students to read outside of school. Students immediately started reading the books. They told me that they're going to read them over the weekend. We have made plans to discuss the books on Monday.

Words cannot truly express our gratitude. Thank you for providing books for my students' home libraries!”

My students come from all areas of Baltimore City. Nearly all of my students qualify for free and reduced lunches. My students come to school everyday and they thrive on hands-on activities! You can see their engagement and excitement with art projects, laboratory investigations, online learning, and hands on activities! My students always ask if they will be dissecting anything in my class; this year, I hope to tell them "yes!" Dissection is an engaging and authentic experience that my students are rarely able to do. Incorporating art and technology with other hands on activities and labs will allow my students to make real connections to what they are learning and perhaps inspire them to enter a career in science.
