  • Projecting into the Future

    Funded Oct 29, 2022

Thank you so much for this opportunity to instruct my students with better visual clarity! This will enable better daily instruction on my part, and ensure better collaboration with my students as well. I am overwhelmed by your generosity and willingness to help our keiki here in Kihei. You're amazing!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rodgers

  • Stop, Collaborate, and Listen

    Funded Oct 26, 2022

Thank you again for your generous donation to my classroom :) The project was just fully funded, so the audio equipment will soon be making its way to my classroom. This will enable me to finally make the full pedagogical shift to blended, self-paced, mastery-based learning. Thank you for your donation and helping me reach my goal.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rodgers

  • Award-Winning Novels & Engaging Science Materials

    Funded Aug 18, 2021

Thank you so much for sponsoring my project. With your help, I was able to purchase class novels that have truly inspired my students in regards to social justice (The Cay), friendship (Freak the Mighty), and overcoming hardship (Tiger Rising). Also, the model of the solar system really helped my students understand rotation versus revolution. Plus, two of my more mechanically inclined students really enjoyed putting the model together and they proudly displayed their work to the other students :)

Thank you so much for giving my students access to wonderful tactile materials that engage their curiosity and reignite their passion for learning. You are wonderful human beings and I appreciate your generosity immensely!

    Mahalo!

    - Ms. Smith and her 5th grade students :)”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rodgers

  • A Novel Approach to Finding Joy in Reading

    Funded Jun 8, 2020

I apologize for the incredibly delayed thank you notice for your generosity in giving to my classroom project! I was so caught up in teaching and sharing your books with my students, that things just kind of got away from me. My sincerest apologies.

In any event, please know that your books went to good use last year! In spite of a pandemic and having nearly two-thirds of my students remain distance-learners last year, I still made it a requirement for my students to read 30-minutes every single night. Now, not all of my students have books at home so I turned myself into a mobile library. I scanned in all 800+ of my books into an online library system, had my students log in to select their books, and then hand-delivered them to their doorstep. Don't worry, all Covid-related protocols were followed! :)

Every week, I would spend 20-30 minutes each afternoon driving around and picking up my students' completed books and exchanging them for the next book on their list. Without all of your generous donations, none of this would have been possible! I sincerely am humbled by your philanthropic gesture and hope you realize the impact that you have made on last year's students as well as many other students to come! :)”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rodgers

I believe that helping students become avid readers is one of my main roles as an educator. Reading helps students become better writers, increases their vocabulary, makes students smarter, relieves stress, arms students against oppression, and will open up doors in my students' futures. However, my kids can't discover the joy of reading unless they have well-crafted, interesting books that they can choose from. They need a large library of hand-picked books from stellar authors that address current issues and universal themes. They need to see what good writing looks like in order to become great writers themselves. They need a good story to get lost in so that they become voracious readers and develop loyalties to certain genres and authors. For this to happen, however, the first step is to line all of my bookshelves with books filled with beautiful words.
