  • Help Motivate 4th Grade Readers With Graphic Novels!

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our graphic novel project. My class had such a productive year of reading thanks to these beautiful books. Graphic novels are especially powerful for young readers- many children who initially resist reading are drawn into the colorful pages and reach for more and more books.

In my class, several students who normally dislike reading got involved in a new book series and were anxiously awaiting friends to finish a book so they could begin on it. Instilling a lifelong love of reading is a goal of mine, and these books definitely helped get my students excited about silent reading time.”

  • Help Develop Our Flexible Seating!

    Funded Jan 1, 2022

Thank you so much for helping with our flexible seating classroom project. It was such a gift to have these items in our classroom throughout the year. My students enjoyed trying out each item and learning about how it could support them in the classroom. The fourth graders really enjoyed having the choice of getting a flexible seating item and using it for the day, if sitting at their seat was feeling challenging.

These items will continue to get lots of use in the coming years, and it will be great to have these in my collection of seating options for many years to come.

Thank you again for your generosity! We really appreciate it!”

  • Help First Graders Grow with Books About Feelings!

    Funded Mar 4, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom library. While the 2019-2020 school year was certainly different than most, I was so happy to continue teaching and talking about empathy and feelings until the end of the year with these lovely books. These books allowed for thoughtful read alouds and reading responses about feelings and emotions from my first graders. Many of these books also offered suggestions about how to deal with "big feelings", which are skills that everyone can use during times of stress.

During the pandemic, our regular classroom was no longer in use, but I heard from many families that the read alouds that we continued to share via the internet were times my students enjoyed and looked forward to.

Thank you again for your generosity.”

  • Building Little Learners: First Grade Building Materials to Spark Imagination

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

Thank you so much for your donation to my classroom. First graders are incredibly inquisitive and curious, and they LOVE building and creating. I introduced these STEM centers in the first weeks of school, and they continue to be the most popular and engaging activity we have in the classroom.

Each time we use with the STEM kits, my students are working on real life skills- collaboration, investigation, compromise and communication. They learn to work in teams, and to work together to solve problems. We are so lucky to be able to do this with such engaging tools.

It is crucial that students view themselves as successful at school at an early age. For those who struggle academically or socially, these kits help bolster confidence as students use problem solving skills with their peers. We cannot thank you enough for your contribution to our classroom.”

  • Help First Graders Grow With Social Skills Read Alouds!

    Funded Aug 10, 2019

Thank you so much for your donation to our classroom library. These social emotional texts deal with topics that can be tricky for six and seven year olds to navigate, such as kindness, honestly, growth mindset, and making good choices. Reading an engaging story about kindness is easy for young students to connect with and gives good suggestions about positive ways to connect with their community.

In the classroom, we use these books extensively throughout the year. In August and September, we use the books to model appropriate behavior, and we have full class conversations about what kindness or respect looks like in our classroom and in our community. Throughout the year, the books get pulled out as refreshers, but are also beloved stories that the children enjoy hearing again and again. Students love to make connections to the texts we've read, saying things like "that's just like in The Invisible Boy!" when someone feels left out. They also learn ways of handling problems, and make connections to the texts by offering solutions from our books.

These books are a treasured part of our classroom library, and are also enjoyed during independent reading by the students. We are so thankful for your donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Marsh
