Funded Aug 10, 2019Thank you so much for your donation to our classroom library. These social emotional texts deal with topics that can be tricky for six and seven year olds to navigate, such as kindness, honestly, growth mindset, and making good choices. Reading an engaging story about kindness is easy for young students to connect with and gives good suggestions about positive ways to connect with their community.
In the classroom, we use these books extensively throughout the year. In August and September, we use the books to model appropriate behavior, and we have full class conversations about what kindness or respect looks like in our classroom and in our community. Throughout the year, the books get pulled out as refreshers, but are also beloved stories that the children enjoy hearing again and again. Students love to make connections to the texts we've read, saying things like "that's just like in The Invisible Boy!" when someone feels left out. They also learn ways of handling problems, and make connections to the texts by offering solutions from our books.
These books are a treasured part of our classroom library, and are also enjoyed during independent reading by the students. We are so thankful for your donation.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Marsh
