Cardstock for Word Sorts
Funded Dec 24, 2010Thank you so much for your kindness in donating to my class project for a supply of cardstock. Having this basic supply readily available has been a huge help and has allowed me to stop spending my own personal money to buy it so often. I give my students weekly words to work with to get to know different spelling patterns. These words are printed out onto this cardstock, which the children cut apart into small cards that they use in sorting the words based on spelling patterns. In working with the words during many different activities throughout the week, the children truly get to know and understand the spelling patterns, instead of just memorizing them temporary. It has been so great not having to worry each week that I am going to run out of cardstock to use. My students have also found numerous other ways to use the "hard paper," as they refer to it. Cardstock makes great, sturdy covers for books written during writing workshop. It is also very useful for cutting and gluing together to make the creative paper projects that my kids come up with in the art center every week.
It has been a huge relief that I don't have to worry about running out of such a basic supply anymore! Thank you so much for your generosity!”

Funded Dec 17, 2010Thank you so much for helping my class get a document camera. It has been a huge addition to our daily lessons. What a pleasure it is to be able to put any book, paper, or object under the document camera for all to see in an instant. When I am demonstrating a writing strategy, I can do the actual writing right in front of my students so they can see how it is done. During math, I can show the children how to move around base-10 blocks to help them add two-digit numbers. My children have also enjoyed reading books to the class which are projected onto the big screen. The amount of ways to use the document camera are endless and I am still learning more about it everyday. Thank you so much for helping to bring this technological tool into our classroom to make learning even more fun!”

Say Cheese!
Funded Dec 21, 2010A huge thank you for your generosity in helping my students get new digital cameras to use in the classroom. It has been so much fun having these two cameras readily available to document the learning that goes on each day. I have taken thousands of photos of my students at work and play in the classroom with the new cameras, from center activities to math games and Mother's Day photo projects. Many of the pictures have been shared on our class blog where parents are able to see the learning process that their children are going through, documented in pictures. I am also completely comfortable allowing the children to take hold of the camera and document through their own eyes. These tough cameras can stand up to the hands of six-year-olds, and a drop on the floor is no problem! Thank you so much for helping out my class! My children and I truly appreciate it.

Funded Dec 10, 2010Thank you so much for your generosity in helping to provide my first graders with a huge assortment of origami paper. Without this project, our paper and origami time would have run out long ago. Since we have received the paper, the students have been thrilled with the choices they have for all kinds of origami projects. It is one of their favorite ways to spend free time in our classroom.
I have taught my students how to make many different origami objects, encouraging them to notice the symmetry, angles and other math concepts that go along with it. I am amazed everyday by how far many of my students have taken this knowledge of paper folding. They have taught themselves how to make even more complicated objects by following directions in books or teaching their friends.
We were very excited to also be able to use some of the new origami paper to participate in a school project of creating one hundred paper cranes for Japan.
Once again, thank you for your kindness! I deeply appreciate your thoughtfulness to my students!”

Funded Oct 14, 2010I would like to thank you for your generous donations to help out my first grade class. The class set of clipboards and the pencil sharpener have truly been enjoyed by my children each day since having received them.
Writing Workshop is now the highlight of the day for most of my children. Now that we have clipboards, this is a time of the day in which they can choose anywhere in the classroom to sit and spend time writing stories. Children stretch out on the rug and get comfortable as they write with clipboards to lean on. They scatter around the classroom to places that they have found as their special writing spots. The pencil sharpener is so easy to use. It sharpens our pencils in just seconds and the blue light that comes on to tell us our pencil is sharp is especially helpful!
Thank you again for helping to provide my first graders with resources that make learning extra fun for them!”

First Graders will Flip for Flip Cams
Funded Sep 7, 2010I truly appreciate all of your donations that helped my class to get two Flip Video Cameras! In the short time since we have received the Flip Cams and accessories, my students and I have found great ways to use them! We have recently begun blogging, complete with videos of student projects and learning. The parents of my students are able to get a glimpse into our classroom through the videos that we post on our blogs. Videos of holiday songs, writing projects and our first laptop blogging experience have allowed our home/school connection to be so much stronger. I can only imagine all the ways our Flip Cams will continue to enhance the first grade experience for my students.
Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, children are able to experience learning in a whole new way! ”

Reading with Excitement and Expression!
Funded Dec 10, 2009Thanks so much for helping my class to get so many great books to use with our listening center! The variety of books with CD's that we now have available to use with our listening center has really brought excitement to my students.
The books and CD's arrived right on time for our non-fiction reading unit. Children who would normally not be able to read higher level non-fiction books on their own, were able to use the listening center. They were able to read along with the storyteller and read the same books that some of their classmates could read.
My students love that there are so many books to choose from when they use the listening center. We now have books to fit the needs of every child. We couldn't be more thankful for this new addition to our classroom!”

Robot Readers to Become Storytellers!
Funded Dec 7, 2009Thanks again for helping my class to get a listening center! It arrived to our classroom right on time for the beginning of our non-fiction reading unit. Because of the listening center, many of my students have been able to read and reread non-fiction books that they would not be able to read and comprehend on their own. They were able to hear the stories read by real storytellers so that they could hear what smooth reading should sound like and try it out for themselves.
My students have had so much fun using the listening center so far in the short time that we have had it. We look forward to this additional resource that will genuinely enhance the reading in our classroom!”
