  • Fresh Supplies for a New Year

    Funded Oct 31, 2024

When we received our new Donors Choose materials, my students were so excited! We got started using them right away and most items are still being used daily in our classroom.

The new scissors, pencils, and pencil sharpener are used on a daily basis. The special paper like the card stock and colored paper have been used for special projects such as Valentine's Cards, and covers for our writing workshop stories. I use the large Post-it Chart paper every day to make posters with strategies to help my students. They are sticky, so they can be hung and moved around the room for everyone to see while they are working. We love the Colors of the World Crayons so that students can find the colors to make their illustrations look just like themselves.

My students and I are so thankful for your kindness and generosity in helping our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lupoli

  • Let's Get Organized With a Brand New Storage Shelf!

    Funded Sep 13, 2023

Since our new storage shelf has arrived in our classroom, we have found so much more space for organizing materials! My students were excited to see the new shelf arrive and the old broken shelf gone.

The shelves now hold activities that the students use during choice time centers, including blocks, play-doh, STEM activities, and art materials. Also, there is space for some of our flexible seating squishy cushions and wobble cushions. The best part is that the students know where the materials are when they need them, and they are able to access them on their own since they are so neatly organized on our new shelf.

We want to give another huge thank you to all of the donors for helping us bringing this beautiful new storage shelf to our classroom!”

    Ms. Lupoli

  • Nonfiction Reading Through Scholastic News Magazines

    Funded Sep 20, 2021

Thank you so much for helping us to get a Scholastic News subscription this year! Every month we receive four student magazines, and we also have access to the online resources on the Scholastic website, including a digital version of the magazine, videos, vocabulary words, games, and more.

This is such a valuable resource for teaching nonfiction reading in a real-world way. My students are excited when we read a Scholastic News together. They enjoy reading it together on our Smartboard big screen. The students can come up to the board and participate in the interactive resources. They especially love the games!

After reading together in school, many students enjoy using the student login at home to reread the Scholastic News and use the interactive activities again.

Thank you again for helping to provide my class with such a fun and valuable resource for real-world reading!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lupoli

  • Help Us Get Started for Back-to-School

    Funded Aug 29, 2021

Thank you so much for all of your kindness in helping my class get these much-needed basic school supplies. Now that we are a few months into the year, the supplies have gotten much use already.

My students use the Book Baggies on a daily basis to carry the books they are reading from our classroom library back and forth between home and school. The plastic book baggies protect the books from spills and tears.

Our new X-ACTO pencil sharpener works great! And we have already gone through the entire box of Amazon Basics pencils.

We have lots of extra scissors and dry erase markers for students to borrow when needed! We also use the cardstock and printer paper very often.

My students and I thank you again for your kindness for all of these much-needed supplies!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lupoli

  • Restocking Supplies During This COVID Year

    Funded May 20, 2021

Thank you so much for helping my class get these basic materials for our classroom!

As we are still social distancing in school, having individual materials is a big help. We use the Write Wipe Lapboard dry erase boards and new dry erasers to practice handwriting, spelling, and even math. The old boards we had were covered with marker lines that wouldn't erase anymore, so it has been really nice to have fresh, clean boards to use.

The small student pencil sharpeners were given out to my students in last year's class so that they could each do their own pencil sharpener without sharing pencils or walking around the classroom.

The new box of pencils and binder clips are still being used now!

Thank you again for all of your kindness in helping my class receive our materials!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lupoli

  • Paper and Storage Bins to Bring More Fun Into School

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

Thank you so much for your kindness in helping my classroom get so many important resources!

Since receiving these materials, we have been able to use the multicultural construction paper in projects where my students can choose the color that they feel represents themselves. We live in one of the most diverse cities in the world, and it is important for my students to have choices that they feel connected to.

The Post-It Super Sticky Easel Pad is one of my favorite teaching resources. During lessons, I can create charts that can be moved around the room and stuck anywhere for my students to refer back to. We especially use this during writing workshop and my students are becoming such wonderful writers, using so many strategies that they see on the chart paper.

My students' favorite time of the day is probably choice time, which is at the end of each day. During that time, they are able to pick choice activities to play with, and bring out their creativity. Since COVID doesn't allow my students to be very close together, the IRIS Supply Cases hold our choice activities. Each student chooses their own little box of materials to play with so that germs aren't spread. These boxes have held up wonderfully, and we use them very often.

Thank you again for all of you generosity in helping my class receive materials that we need and use often.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lupoli

  • Interesting and Diverse Books

    Funded Jun 6, 2021

Thank you SO much for helping me to get so many interesting and diverse books for my classroom. Since receiving them at the end of last school year, I have already been able to use many of them with my class from last year and with my current class.

The books we have received include a mix of fiction and nonfiction books. The fiction books have diverse characters of different ethnicities, which is just what my students in Queens, NY need to see to feel connected to the characters. We live in one of the most diverse cities in the world, and I am always trying to add more books and resources to our classroom that my students can relate to.

Some of these books have been added to our classroom library for students to read independently, and some will be used as whole-class read alouds.

Again, I want to thank you for all of your generosity and kindness in helping to get these resources into my classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lupoli

  • Real World Reading With Scholastic News

    Funded Sep 24, 2020

Thank you so much for helping my class to get a Scholastic News subscription for this school year. With things constantly changing day to day, from in-person learning to remote learning, the Scholastic News subscription has been a resource that we can use not matter where we are learning.

My students have enjoyed reading these magazines that teach them nonfiction information in a fun way. When we are in school, we read the Scholastic News together on our Smartboard. My students love watching the videos and playing the games! When we are working remotely, we are able to read our Scholastic News issues together through Zoom. Then my students can login on their own to look closer at the magazine and use the interactive tools.

I have used Scholastic News with my students for many years and I am very grateful for your donations which have helped to make this a possibility again during this unusual school year. Thank you for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lupoli

  • Resources and Materials for Blended Learning

    Funded Sep 23, 2020

This certainly has been an unprecedented year, with sudden switches between in-person learning and remote learning. The materials that we received in this project have been a big help in keeping the learning going, whether we are doing it in school or from home!

The math manipulatives, such as the counters and linking cubes, have allowed my students to have a set to use when they are in school and a set to bring home for remote math work. We try not to share materials this year, but these extra supplies have been so helpful!

The Post-it Super Sticky Easel Pads and markers are a very valuable teaching tool. I have been able to keep some at school and some at home so that I have easel pads and markers ready for teaching, whether I am in the classroom or remote.

We can't thank you enough for your generous donations that have helped to keep our class running smoothly this year with the materials we need for both in-person learning and remote!”

  • iPads for Innovation

    Funded Dec 4, 2019

My first graders and I are so excited to have two brand new iPads in our classroom now. We have begun to explore them and have so many ideas for how they can be used! We plan to have students take turns using them during reading workshop so that some of their reading can be done digitally with apps that display beautiful children's books. We have several apps for practicing math skills in a fun way, as well as apps for learning more about science and social studies. Soon we will be starting a reading and writing project researching different countries around the world. The iPads will be such a big help in allowing the students to easily access information while they research countries using child-friendly apps and websites.

I look forward to all the benefits these iPads will bring to my first grade classroom for years to come! Thanks again for all of your kindness in helping us to receive them.”
