All too often inner city students are disproportionately achieving below average in reading and writing. With your help we can get quality book making materials, and these students will get the chance to embark in an amazing book making project. My students live in Harlem, a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood in New York City. For many of my students the first books they've ever seen and read were at school. By 4th and 5th grade many students are way below grade level, struggling with reading and writing, and developing an aversion to a subject that causes them such difficulty. With dedicated teachers, and an interdisciplinary curriculum, writing and the arts are being fused. Students who have a talent and passion for the arts are now getting the tools to apply it to writing. Help my students make something they are proud of!
