Flexible seating encourages students to make decisions that benefit their learning style the most. Flexible seating has given students the ability to move, collaborate, communicate with their peers, and develop critical thinking skills. These flexible seating materials will allow my students independence in choosing a seating area that makes them the most comfortable and helps them to do their best learning. My students currently choose where in the room they would like to work and these materials will allow them many more comfortable options. The more comfortable that students are while they are learning, the more growth they will show. I differentiate our math curriculum to best suit the needs of each student, why not differentiate their seating options, too? When students are allowed choice in their learning, they become much more engaged and begin to take control of their education. The students become invested in the classroom and their own learning. Watching them grow as they do this and the pride that they show in making these decisions for themselves is why I teach. The seating options that this project funds will allow this to happen!
