  • Equity and Access in Mathematics

    Funded Nov 12, 2024

On behalf of my students, a thrillionand more thank yous.

The pens are awesome, thekids hated them at first since it took them off of Ipads where they had the capabilityof searching AI for answers instead of working out the problems. The pens only translated, help came from the teacher, other students or students speaking the same language.

The students soon learnt to struggle and preserve and ensure that that they learn the key steps.

The sensory toys are also a huge bonus to my classroom, many students use them as a source of comfort while they work and also as a sense of harmless distration.

Thanks so much for your invaluable contribution.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Benfield

    Funded Sep 14, 2024

It could be freezing, even raining a bit as long as students have somthing to munch on. They will come in and practice or complete missing work. Your donation has helped to buy a cross section of snack catering for allergies and also religious preference.

To all my donors and Chares Schwab Foundation:

    - More students came out for the additional support and practice on Saturdays and for after school during the week.

    - Despite the easy spread of viruses during the winter season with the use of hand sanitizer we wre able to stay clean and not pass on anything contagious to each other.

    - cleaning cloths helped us toclean up easily after work.”

  • Graphers at Work!

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

My students relieve stress with the stress toys as they prepare to engage in the productive struggle in creating equations to graph, rewriting the equations in graphable form as they prepare to graph the function they need to make inferences from.

The pencil sharpeners ensured that we do not watse time getting our graphing tools ready for the tasks at hand.

Our clip magnets makes it easy for our students to post their work and other to observe, give feedback, copy the strategies, and note and correct their errors.

Thank you so much for your generousity.”

Thank you so much for your generousity. The graph post-its helped our students engage and share work quickly among themselves and give each other feedback on their work.

Our ladder enables posting of classroom artifacts so that they remain checklists and examples as students continue their work. The broom nd dustpan helps us keep our classroom clean.

The baskets clearly dealinated the catogories of work - Must Do, Should Do and Aspire. Students can then decide their course of study. The connections allow us to display work without disrupting the main class sources on the promethuem board and also to quickly charges devices for the ENL students throughout our room.”

  • My Class is for Everyone

    Funded May 27, 2024

With the influx of immigrants to New York City, many families coming from countries where English is not the primary language, teachers needed tools to communicate with students.

Pocket Talk is an excellent device, and your donations provided it. I have translated from English to Russian, French, and Spanish. Although this facilitates a one-way conversation, it still provides the learner with instructions in their language, and they are, in turn, able to write questions to clarify their learning, which I easily translate into English using my device.

Thank you so much for your generosity. It has enhanced my teaching and learning environment.”

  • And We're Back

    Funded Sep 11, 2023

Your support has been awesome. Pens and pencils are part of our everyday supplies, no child works without the pair.

Whenever we work late students have a light snack of one of their favorite snacks while they work. Making the extra hours shorter than it actually is.

It is flu season or sneeze season, everyone needs a tissue to get by.

The presentation tool enables me to present seamlessly without having to be close to the screen, quick slide movements and the ability to go back keeps students engaged in the lesson.

Altogether make the learning environment an enjoyable one.”

  • We Are Ready!

    Funded May 10, 2023

Imagine waking early on a Saturday and heading to school to practice Mathematics, the Cafeteria serves a cold sandwich and carrots, your heart sinks, then your teacher puts out an assortment of snacks, and warms up your sandwich to a cheese melt.

I can tell you, smiles broke out, my students ate and buckled down to work, sharpening skills, asking questions, and clarifying concepts.

I cannot make generalizations but to practice, ensure mastery, and strive to do the best you can, I'm not saying you need to be extremely but I don't think you can be hungry.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Benfield

This classroom project was brought to life by SONIC Foundation and 2 other donors.
  • Scholars at Work

    Funded Apr 6, 2023

We practiced our hearts out, without worrying about pens and pencils; drawing with pencils and writing with pens for the Algebra 1 & II regents. Everyone was equipped and needed only to bring confidence and the skills they learned and identify the needed skills.

I need only to instruct during my training 'pencil time' or 'pen time'. My students were excited and impressed that during practice, during classroom work they were able to practice the switching, a large majority wrote in pencil and then wrote over the pencil in pen.

As mandates change, the incomes of parents/fosters may not change, but we are still required to ensure that there's equity in learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Benfield

The supplies requested are common supplies that assist in the smooth functioning of a student centered classroom. Since the focus is on the students their basic needs must be supplied i order to ensure their full participation and engagement. The chart paper provides a huge visual display for students observe their peers' strategy, assess peers, and allows a show of best practices. Pencils and pens make the start of class easy as these common supplies are not afforded by every student. Students are provided with as much practice and strategies that can be provided as a result we copy and supply lots of handouts. We need a pencil sharpener to go with our new pencils and some hand sanitizer to help control the germs.
