In 2nd grade we have some really important math standards that build the foundation for further math in upper grades, like algebra. We need to be able to understand place value and the patterns within numbers. We need to be able to add and subtract any number 0 to 1000 using the understanding of numbers and their place value. With these new math manipulatives ALL of my students will now have access to the tools they need to understand those math standards, and build that foundation. They will be able to create numbers, break numbers apart, measure objects in 10s and 1s, model their thinking, check their work, build patterns, and so much more. They will no longer need to fight over who gets the cubes at which station, because all our math stations will have plenty of cubes for students to use. When students are focused on the math their solving, instead of the tools they need, they will be more successful in reaching their personal math goals.

About my class
