  • Crafty Classroom

    Funded Jul 14, 2020

I am so excited about receiving this crafting package! The classroom resources I create with this Silouehtte Cameo 4 package is going to be AMAZING! No more tracing and cutting by hand, no more crooked lines, no more having a few kids who like using the scissors cut out materials for me before or after school! How awesome is it that, because of this DonorsChoose project, I will be able to create high quality classroom resources including classroom decor and learning materials. I am beyond thankful for this project that was brought to life by a match offer from Google.com and a funding opportunity from My School Votes.”

  • Classroom Basics Restock

    Funded Mar 16, 2020

This project means that my students will have access to some basics when they are at school. So often, girls are too embarrassed to ask to go see the nurse because they forgot to bring a pad or didn't have any at home. The pads I received will ensure that I have some to give whenever I have a student who needs them.

The pencils are equally essential as a basic classroom staple in my English class. Because of these projects on Donor's Choose, my students are never without a pencil. Not only are they equipped to write in my class, but I these Donor's Choose projects afford me the opportunity to give the pencils to my students to keep and take with them so that they are prepared for their entire school day.

Our classroom basic needs are met thanks to generous donors like you!”

  • The Ready Classroom

    Funded Jun 28, 2020

There is no feeling like walking into a classroom that is all set up and ready for learning on day 1. It sets the tone for success for the upcoming school year. Thanks to you, my students and I will have an opportunity to experience this feeling for another year! I am appreciative for being able to supply my classroom with all the things we need without having to wonder how we will obtain all these things! Because of the DonorsChoose community, we will start the year off with a well organized classroom all setup and ready for learning. Thank you!”

  • High-Quality Lessons from Anywhere

    Funded Jun 26, 2020

This project is a very new concept that I am personally still learning about and adjusting to. In the fall, our worlds were changed and how we do learning transformed over night. We all scrambled and worked day and night looking for ways to continue to teach our students while also showing compassion and consideration for the fact that their entire lives, in a sense, felt as though the rug had been snatched from underneath them. With the supplies and materials from this project, I will be able to effectively plan and deliver lessons that address the diverse needs of all my students from anywhere. Through the DonorChoose community and generous donors, I have the tools I need to record myself teaching various lessons that students can playback when they need to from anywhere, livestream lessons, video conference with students, and so much more. The books will aid in designing digital lessons that are effective and engaging. Thank you for helping me make this possible!”

  • More Books... Because Who Doesn’t Love a Good Book?!

    Funded Mar 5, 2020

Thank you for your generosity. Because of your help, I was able to get some more interesting titles in the hands of students. It's such a special feeling to see the look on a kid's face when they find a book they're excited about diving into.

I'm always looking for ways to keep students engaged in reading. Their excitement when we get new books is one of the most rewarding moments an English teacher can experience. The titles in this project are just why my classroom library needs to keep my young adult readers reading.”

  • Diversify Our Classroom Library

    Funded Feb 19, 2020

Thank you for helping us diversify our classroom library! These books are a great addition to our classroom in so many ways. The life lessons within some of them, the diverse authors, and the wide variety of characters all add value to my students' reading journeys. They were so excited to unbox all of the books and look through them to see what we got. It is thrilling them to hear them talk about who is going to read which ones first. Without generous donors like yourself, robust classroom libraries would not be possible!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. James

  • Just Mercy

    Funded Dec 20, 2019

Thank you for finding this screening of Just Mercy for our students. It gave our kids some insight on justice and the effects of mass incarceration, inequality of the justice system, and the permanence of capital punishment (for the innocent and guilty alike). There were tears shed, laughs had, and thoughts provoked by seeing this film. Mesquite High School students had an opportunity to walk in the shoes of someone who experienced a huge injustice and feel empathy for him. They were challenged by what they saw in a way that may push some of them to take action in the future in order to work towards social justice for all.”

  • ELA Classroom Basics

    Funded Aug 12, 2019

Thank you for your generosity. The materials from this project have added a level of fun and interaction to our classroom that we would not have had without you. The kids love the educational games and practice speaking in English in a fun and engaging way. Even my kids who are shy don't mind speaking when they're playing these games.

I've seen a great deal of growth with the speaking and listening for my newcomers as well as my students who have been speaking English for a year or two. This has definitely played a bog part in helloing them grow.”

  • Classroom Recharged

    Funded Jun 29, 2019

Game changer! This project has help enable me to start the school year out with a classroom ready to welcome a new group of students. Because of the grouse match off by Google, I was able to get books my students will love, all the classroom supplies needed to write and be great in an English class, plus tons of extra fun through cooperative and competitive learning games.

I am beyond thankful and I know my students will be as well. I can't wait to share the great things to come with all of them this year.”

  • Learning Is Fun Fun Fun

    Funded Dec 11, 2018

My students were so excited to open the boxes and see all of our fun learning games. Seeing kids excited about anything related to learning warms a teacher's heart, and I am beyond grateful to you for making this possible. We try to mix it up a bit in my classroom to keep the learning engaging and hands on, and these games have given us numerous ways to continue this. Thanks to your generosity, we have a chance to explore different and memorable ways to expand vocabulary, develop deeper critical thinking, and work collaboratively. For that and so much more we thank you!”

Many of my students start the year out reading below grade level. They admit to not reading and often say they do not like to read in the beginning of the school year. It is my goal to have each of them end the school year as readers, not because someone told them they had to, but because they enjoy it. Our school is a Title I school with more than 90% of our students classified as economically disadvantaged. Many of my students come to me with a sense of apathy formed from the lack of experiences of academic success in the past. We work all year to learn to grow from our failures and use them to get a step closer to success. A big part of this process is growing as readers.
