Students crave to read stories rooted in their experience on this planet. As their social justice English teacher, I find that it is my duty to provide them with novels that we can critically analyze as well as celebrate our cultural experiences. While our school library contains various books from authors of color, many of the choices are outdated and do not embody the scope of a varied literature experience. Additionally, many of my students enter the classroom needing to nourish their bodies as well, so I have also asked for a donation of oatmeal for my students to eat.
