7th Gr-Aid Package
Funded Aug 2, 2019Thank you for your generous donations. The students had a blast creating their aid packages. They worked together in teams to learn the physics behind the aid packages. They worked as a unit to design and create the aid packages to ensure they would actually work.
The student classroom is filled with non-fiction science books relating to chemistry, astronomy, weather, and other disciplines. The classroom also has adapted non-fiction books such as "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind". We also focus on reading current science news and articles that the students annotate and discuss on a weekly basis.”

Funded May 13, 2019Thank you for your generous donations. The students were finally able to be outdoors and enjoy healthy competition. They had a blast playing badminton and many learned the rules rather quickly. They wanted to personalize the shuttlecocks to represent themselves but it was easier said then done.
The students initially did not recognize the badminton equipment because they assumed it was something related to tennis. After they inspected the equipment they realized they had a new sport to showcase their skills in. The students were quite interested in learning how the game is played.
I want my students to complement their academic skills with athletic skills. We are pushing for a healthy body and mind that is active and always learning. We are pushing for these students to be healthy, smart, informed, and athletic.”

Funded Sep 14, 2019Thank you so very much for your continued support. Your donations are worth more than the pictures we can share because they do not capture the excitement generated within the students. My students were waiting eagerly for the materials and now they cannot wait to start their projects. We will be learning about 3D apps and apps that allow students to manipulate images and objects. Students will conduct hands-on projects to learn about engineering and objects are scaled.
The students are excited about the iPad and the Pencil because it is a marvelous piece of technology that allows them to perform many functions with ease. The students are interested in the technology that is used to make the product and the technology that is found in the product itself. Students want to learn what materials are used in the manufacturing of these products and what is the chemistry behind those materials.
Many of the students have access to the iPads in school but they do not have access to the applications we will be installing. They really gravitate towards the Pencil because it is very intuitive to use. We will be learning and having fun!”

Funded May 13, 2019The electricity and magnetic kits are amazing. My students have been tinkering with circuits, building radios, and learning to make electromagnets. The students were beyond themselves once they realized they were not playing with Lego pieces but with an actual circuit.
The students are already forming teams to create their own projects with the kits. They want to build circuits in series and parallel while adding other characteristics. They want to challenge themselves and ultimately create a unified circuit with radios, turbines, and music.”

Funded Mar 5, 2019The UNICEF Powerbands have already helped my students be motivated to help those in need. They have been arriving to class early because they want to wear the Powerbands and calculate the steps they have walked. The students have formed teams to encourage one another to walk, run, and play to help unlock food packets for kids who are going to sleep hungry.
The powerbands have taught students the act of stewardship and advocacy can help change the world for the better. They are working together as a team to achieve a goal to help students they have never met. They are discussing ways to increase their participation so a child is able to receive food packets faster.”

Funded Nov 17, 2017Thank you so very much for the soccer equipment. A day does not go by when the students don't ask if they have soccer practice. They are very eager to learn new skills and techniques and they will stay after-school everyday if they could. I have been able to use the soccer club as an incentive for many struggling students to perform better at school since they have found a new sense of self-esteem, pride, and friends. These students are working harder in their classes and performing even better during practice.
When the students first saw the equipment they wanted to start playing even though it was pouring rain outside. When they saw the soccer nets they were besides themselves because now we had defined goals and did not need to use backpacks as the goal posts.
I hope to continue teaching soccer to these students as they move on from this grade. We have built healthy relationships that have allowed them to excel in class and the field. I hope they will continue to better themselves and build strong friendships as they head into the summer.”

Funded Dec 15, 2017The magazines and BrainPop subscription were so helpful for our astronomy unit. The students were able to supplement their learning of the planets and the solar system through the BrainPop videos and games. They were able to read current research, view images, and entertain new ideas through the magazines. The students were able to use these resources to complete their projects and presentations.
Once the students realized we had access to BrainPop they were very eager to participate in discussions. They wanted to watch every video related to their topic. They were excited and engaged. The students were very grateful for the magazines because they had vital information at their fingertips. They very intrigued by the readings and were shocked to see real pictures of planets, comets, stars, galaxies, and telescopes.
The students will be progressing to the physics unit and they will be reading their magazines to choose topics that relate to gravity, motion, etc. They will also preview the BrainPop videos to understand their lessons.”

Funded Apr 14, 2017The cricket equipment helped us start an after-school cricket club. The students learned about a new sport and its rules. They learned how to bat, how to bowl, and how to catch in cricket. The students who knew how to play the game were excited to show their friends and new players how to handle a cricket bat and when to risk taking runs.
When the students first saw the equipment they could not believe how many materials we had received. They realized we had enough equipment to run a full game without any delays. They were awed and were very thankful for the donations.
My hope is to encourage my students to become role models not only in their academics but also their extracurricular activities. I want them to understand how to manage their time wisely to excel in school and also on the field. The next steps are to tie the after-school team to a community project such as a community garden or a long-term recycling program.”

Funded Mar 5, 2017Thank you so very much for your generous donations. Your contributions have helped stimulate our students to actively grow their own food. They were very excited once they received their materials and they took pride in assembling the indoor greenhouse and the outdoor double-composter.
The students loved planting their herbs and vegetables and they are very eager to harvest produce before the school year ends. They have been checking on the plants, taking measurements, and watering them daily. The students are almost ready to transplant the small plants into the garden.
The students have been working hard on weeding and setting up the school garden. The students learned how to use shovels, rakes, and trowels properly for the first time in their young lives. They are looking forward to being in the field again to finish their garden.
Thank you again!”

Funded Apr 18, 2016My students constructed the solar system model for their unit and when they saw the automated system they were very excited. They wanted to assemble the system through groupwork and they wanted to see it in action with the lights off. They were even more intrigued when we were studying the constellations because they were able to see the constellations in the classroom. The students were genuinely excited and thrilled to have a hands-on experience.
We are thinking about a sustainability unit where we will create a city from recycled materials and then use a 3D printer to build a replica as well. We hope to include sustainable concepts such as green energy, zero carbon emissions, and limiting our carbon footprint.”
