Here's To A "Sock-cessful" School Year
Funded Aug 24, 2017All of the students at Jefferson Elementary School in Ottawa, Illinois are benefiting from the chair socks! Our computer lab is shared between all grade levels, Kindergarten through 4th Grade. Each chair in the computer lab is now equipped with chair socks! This has made the noise level and distraction level decrease immensely while we are in the lab for standardized testing and even regular computer/technology lessons.
My own 2nd Graders have also loved their own chair socks on their own chairs within our 2nd Grade classroom. It is truly unbelievable how much of a difference it makes! With all of our transitions and movement from day to day tasks throughout our classroom, the noise level was sometimes unbearable for my students and even myself. With these chair socks, the distractions are few and far between.
I am beyond thrilled that this project got funded so quickly. As a public school teacher, I feel so honored and grateful to each and every one of my donors. Without you all, I wouldn't be where I am today as an educator. Thank you once again for your generosity, kindness, and support!!!”

Mrs. Cade
Can You "See" Me Now?
Funded Feb 12, 2017I want to say thank you again SO very much for your generosity and kindness. We received our new document camera last week and got it hooked up and working right away! The kids were just as excited as I was. It is amazing how up-to-date this camera is. It has already allowed us to put our morning work under the camera and project it so everyone can follow along. The kids have also been able to come up to the camera with their own work. They all enjoy having an opportunity to the be the "teacher" and this camera allows us to do this more often. With this new camera, the possibilities are endless. I cannot wait to see what else we can do with this camera!!!
Many of my students are visual learners. Being able to project lessons, worksheets, and other assignments through the document camera allows me to meet the needs of my students. Thank you again so much. We all LOVE our new camera so very much!!! Again, thank you for supporting your local public school students and teacher!”

Makin' Daily 5 Come Alive with Books!
Funded Aug 21, 2015Words cannot describe the happiness and gratitude that fills my heart because of each and every one of you. My 2nd Graders are in love with the new Scholastic non-fiction books. The books are filled with age-appropriate text features, photographs, and real-life information. I am especially impressed with these books because the topics ALL tie in to the Social Studies and Science content areas.
We recently finished up reading the entire set of the Solar System books. We were learning about astronauts and the solar system for several weeks. The non-fiction books in the Solar System set were truly amazing. The kids learned so much and the books provided us with valuable learning experiences as well as stimulating reading material. We were also able to read a book from the Biographies set that tied into our Space study. We read about Sally Ride, who was the first American woman to go into space.
I plan on using these fabulous books with my 2nd Graders throughout the rest of our school year. I can't wait to continue using them. If it wasn't for you, my kids would not have access to multiple copies of high-interest non-fiction books. On behalf of my 2nd Graders, we ALL thank you so much for your generosity and kindness. Thank you once again for supporting my classroom, and more importantly, for supporting public schools in Illinois.”

Help Us Become Mathematicians!
Funded May 19, 2015Words cannot truly describe the happiness and gratitude I have in my heart. I am beyond lucky to have generous donors such as all of you. My 2nd Graders jumped for joy when I told them they wouldn't have to share my old, personal iPad anymore. Having an iPad mini during our Math Workshop time allows the students to have their very own iPad to play the math games they need to play during math time! I am also glad to see how nice they have taken care of it thus far. It makes me proud and it should make all of you proud as well! My students use the iPad mini daily during Math Workshop.
We are also utilizing the magnetic math manipulatives weekly in our small-group instruction. My kids love ANYTHING magnetic! They think it is SO amazing!!! The dry erase markers are also getting used every single day. These materials I've received from this project have truly made a huge impact on my math instructional methods, as well as my instructional methods as a whole. I can already witness the growth my 2nd Graders have made in their math skills because of the fabulous materials and supplies we are able to get our hands on every day.
On behalf of my 2nd Grade students, we ALL thank you so much for your generosity and kindness. Thank you for supporting Illinois public schools.”

Small Group Learning = Success!
Funded Aug 23, 2014I want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH yet again for your gracious, loving, and thoughtful donations that were put towards this project. Having a kidney table in my 2nd Grade classroom has completely changed my teaching routine and my students' learning routine. The shape of this table has allowed me to work one-on-one with students and work with small groups of students. The table is utilized every day...almost all day long. Students LOVE to come up to "Miss Siebert's table," whether it's to correct an assignment, review a skill, read books, practice spelling words, or even just to work independently. I cannot imagine my school year without my kidney table and cannot imagine how I ever taught without one!!! Again, thank you for supporting public school teachers and students. Thanks to you, my students have an even brighter future.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Gates Foundation Back To School and 9 other donors.Anchoring Down for Common Core!
Funded May 17, 2014I want to say THANK YOU again for the gracious donations that allowed my very first DonorsChoose project to be funded. My 2nd Graders are in love with our easel cart. Gathering in the "back corner" by the easel is a part of our daily routine. We are able to utilize the easel and the post-it pads in SO many ways each week. It serves as a focal point in our classroom. Mini lessons are taught in the "back corner" with our cart and LOTS of anchor charts are created on the cart. I honestly cannot imagine our school day without it now that we have been utilizing it since September. Words still cannot describe the gratitude and happiness that I have for all of you. Thanks to each of you, my 2nd Graders are able to be a part of innovative lessons and activities each and every school day. Thank you for supporting public school teachers and more importantly, the children of our future.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Cade
