  • Hands-On Math!

    Funded Jun 24, 2015

Thank you so much for your donations to my Hands on Math project for my students!! My second and third grade students were so excited to see the materials when they arrived and couldn't wait to begin using them!!

We've been using the Real-World Math Problem Solving Kits and the Math Folder Game Libraries during our morning math rotations. All of my second and third graders love using the hands on materials to learn new concepts and reinforce their learning of already mastered skills.

I love seeing the looks in their eyes when they have a "light bulb" moment. It's so rewarding to help young adults build confidence in themselves and their abilities. I'm excited to continue working with my students using these amazing materials and I can't wait for them to have the same experience with the language arts materials that I'm requesting in my next project.

Thank you again with all my heart for making these learning opportunities possible for my students!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Aronowitz

  • Let's Save Water!!!

    Funded May 30, 2015

Thank you very much for funding our project!! My students and I are extremely thankful!! We have all heard and seen commercials about the drought our state is going through and we have discussed it in class. Now, thanks to the generosity of you, our donors, my students will be able to learn more about this drought and what they can do to make a difference.

I can't wait until my returning and new students arrive at school in the fall and are able to open the boxes and explore all of these wonderful materials!! Their smiles and the excitement in their eyes will be amazing as they begin thinking of the possibilities.

Thank you for making all of this possible!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Aronowitz

  • Positive Teachers = Positive Students part 2

    Funded Apr 16, 2015

Thank you for your wonderful donations that provided me with the opportunity to document the Positive Discipline Workshop that I attended in April. It was so valuable to have an iPad to allow me to videotape and record audio from some of the role playing activities during the workshop. I was also able to take many pictures of the hands on materials and posters created over the course of the two days. This workshop was an amazing experience that I will always remember and it has been so easy for me to implement so many of the strategies that I had learned about once I returned to the classroom. Based on my notes, I have worked with my students to make our classroom meetings more effective and our classroom guidelines more structured. All of my notes are easily accessible and I can refer to them throughout the school day as needed.

I have also been able to view the three training videos that I was provided through my Positive Teachers=Positive Students project. This iPad allows me to take advantage of learning opportunities throughout the day whether or not I am at home with my computer.

I have also been using this iPad to show my students videos to help foster their learning and it is helping me to be a more organized and effective teacher. As I continue on my journey to become the best teacher and mentor that I can be, I am grateful to have all of my tools readily available at my fingertips.

Thank you for making this all possible!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Aronowitz

  • Positive Teachers = Positive Students

    Funded Mar 11, 2015

Thank you for your wonderful donations that provided me with the opportunity to attend the Positive Discipline Workshop in April. I had a wonderful time meeting and learning with other educators. I came away from the conference with so many wonderful ideas to implement in my classroom. I have already begun using curiosity questions with my students to help them explore the consequences of their choices as opposed to imposing consequences on them. I have also focused on offering limited choices as opposed to making demands of my students. My students and I have been working together to help resolve issues peacefully and respectfully in our classroom.

I was also excited to receive the following books as a result of your donations. Number Talks Common Core Edition, Grades K-5, Bringing Joy Back into the Classroom, Teaching the Common Core Math Standards With Hands-on Activities, Classroom Management in Photographs, Tapping the Potential of Parents, The Complete Common Core State Standards Kit, Grade 4, The Complete Common Core State Standards Kit, Grade 3 Poetry Lessons to Meet the Common Core State Standards, and Common Core Math Grade 4: Activities That Captivate, Motivate and Reinforce. These valuable books have allowed me to more creatively teach the Common Core State Standards to my students. I am also using many of these books to better connect with the parents of my students and continue to make my classroom a more joyful place.

The online courses Reflective Teacher: Examining Beliefs, Impacting Practice, Juggling Act: Schedules, Routines, and Transitions, and Child Assessment: The Essential of Individualizing have been valuable tools as I continue to become a more patient and organized teacher for the benefit of my students.

As I continue on my journey to become the best teacher and mentor that I can be, I will be able to refer to these wonderful books and workshops.

Thank you for making this all possible!!”

  • Help Us Continue to Meet the Masters

    Funded Aug 24, 2014

Thank you for your wonderful donation of art supplies to my class this year! The students were so excited when the materials arrived and they couldn't wait to begin using them!

So far we have already used the construction paper, drawing paper, and tracing paper in addition to our new oil pastels from a previous Donors Choose project to create our own masterpieces based on the techniques we learned about while studying Frida Kahlo. Our oil pastel art featured colorful parrots and fruit and included the use of vibrant colors to create a focal point. One student was so inspired by our study of Friday Kahlo, she chose to represent her during our annual "Mystery History" event this year.

As we continue learning about prominent American artists like Norman Rockwell, Frederic Remington, and Grant Wood my class will appreciate using their brand new tempera paint, watercolor crayons, and drawing paper to express themselves through their artwork. We also used our new drying rack to dry posters that the class created to promote our canned food and kids clothing drive this year!!!

Thank you for making this possible!!”

My students are second and third and grade students who spend three days a week working one on one with their families and then the other two school days with me in our classroom. They are amazing children with a thirst for knowledge. We spend most of our days learning about history, science, math and language arts through hands on and small group activities. My school focuses on learning through classical education. Students are encouraged to play a major role in their personalized learning plan through goal setting and project based learning.
