As a teacher participating in a cultural exchange, I would like to share with the students the different traditions and cultures of my home country (Philippines) and other neighboring countries using the materials requested. The Children of the World book set will be used in the classroom and also during our virtual meetings. I will have the students pick one storybook for the week as the theme and we will be conducting different activities using the materials in the culture theme box requested. In addition, we will be talking about the costumes. To make it more exciting, the class will be dressing up using the Multicultural Clothing Set (after the pandemic) or I will show them the costumes and encourage each of the students to dress up similar to the costume. After exploring the different cultures, costumes, and traditions, the class will have a fashion show wearing the traditional costume from a chosen country. We will do it in the classroom and/or virtually.
I want my students to really feel that they have explored the world so I will be inviting some of my friends from other parts of the world (Filipino, Chinese, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Japanese, Pakistani, Cambodian, Indian, Singaporean) to have a video call with them. My students will also have the chance to interact with some kindergarten students from the Philippines. The class will also be creating our own "What a Wonderful World" bulletin board.
This will be a fun way to teach and help these young minds appreciate the differences in people and traditions. It will also help expand the children's knowledge of world cultures. This will also be It will help them realize that we are all different and special in our own way.
