  • New Classroom Opening Up. Need Your Help And Support Please!

    Funded Sep 2, 2011

We would like to thank you so much for funding our project. My students need to pass their state tests and I look for many ways to get them extra needed support. We use the internet and print practice tests, as well as other worksheets that help to practice on. Times are tough for everyone, and there is no Teachers Choice money this year. Having the colored ink will help my students prepare in the classroom in all subjects. There are so many things I need to print out for my students success. Thank you so much!”

  • Recycled Book Boxes "A Personalized Collection About Me"

    Funded Jan 13, 2011

My art students want to thank you for getting us the materials to make a special recyclable project, to make a difference in the world. We believe in turning trash and recyclable items into art, to help save our planet. We plan on making recycled book boxes to collect memories that we hold dear to our hearts.

I ran across this project from Blick Art Supplies and loved the idea of making these special recycled book boxes. I felt that it would make a very special gift to give to their parents/guardians or loved ones. It will also be "green" to save our Earth.

My students care very much about their families, and doing a project that puts so much love into it means a great deal to them. These recycled book boxes will hold little trinkets of memories that they will place into it. It's a wonderful way of expressing who they are. We are very excited about this project and have already started making our books. We plan on submitting this project to the Disney Challenge. We thank you so much for the opportunity to do this.”

  • "I Wish to Connect Language Arts Writing with Art in a Book"

    Funded Dec 22, 2010

I want to thank everyone that helped make this project become funded. We received the books and are getting ready now to start brainstorming some great ideas. It is extremely important to tie all core subjects to art, because blending the two is very powerful. Students look at art as fun, and enjoy doing the work that is involved, so now that we have the materials we are ready to begin. It would not have been possible without your great help. Thank you so very much for your generosity and working together with me.”

    With gratitude,

  • "Read Any Good Art Books Lately?"

    Funded Dec 28, 2010

We would like to thank everyone that helped turn this project into a reality. We received the materials to make books to connect a lesson we had from taking a virtual trip in our classroom. This was a social studies/art lesson about connecting the knowledge of South Village in Manhattan (past and present) and making it into a book. We are very excited to begin our books and are already making sketches and drawings. We will be writing about what we learned and connecting it with our sketches. This was a very exciting project and we really appreciate your generosity.”

  • "Music Is Very Calming For Behavior Problems"

    Funded Dec 22, 2010

It's hard to come to school when you're stressed out. It's hard to learn when you have so much on your mind. My students spend a lot of time in school and need a place to feel safe, as well as learn. I've found soothing, calm music seems to help relax them. When we received the CD, CD player and speakers, we were very excited. The students were feeling a little stressed out and there was an exceptional amount of talking going on. I placed the CD of calming music on and they looked up. I told them to continue to draw, but to listen to the CD. There wasn't just music on it. The voice instructed them to hold a magic coin in their hands and squeeze it three times. They were traveling to an imaginative beach. You could breathe in fresh air and see the beautiful blue color of the ocean. The CD was able to put them into a special place as they created. It was exactly what we needed. We want to thank you so much for funding our project. Thank you for all that you do for our students!”

  • In My Art Students' World, A Cricut Is Not Just An Insect!

    Funded Dec 22, 2010

My students learn through differentiation. I teach to all types of learners, especially visual and tactile. We received the Cricut machine today. Now my students can cut out a variety of different shapes through cartridges, that my students can use with my supervision, and add to their own creativity. My students love to make collages and cards, and having a Cricut Machine to tote around greatly enhances my program.

Having a Cricut cutting machine is an invaluable tool to my art students. It offers a wide variety of applications, and brings current technology into my classroom. Having the support from donors like you now made it possible to make so many new projects that my students love to do. We thank you so much for your generosity.”

  • "My Face Is A Mask Of Emotions"

    Funded Dec 8, 2010

We received the materials to make masks this week. We watched how to make masks using clay and the students really enjoyed the DVD and all of us learned new ideas. Since we didn't have clay as of yet we decided to use paper towels and wet them in paste, to give the masks a three dimensional look. There wasn't a student in the room who didn't want to take part in making these masks. The enthusiasm was highly contagious. I sat down with them and created one myself. We are going to make all different kinds of masks so each one will be unique. We will be posting pictures of our work progress. We really appreciated all of your help in getting this project funded. Thank you very much!”

  • Take A Look At That!

    Funded Dec 22, 2010

My students and I want to sincerely thank you for funding this project. I have found that when I try to teach art history to my art students, they get so into seeing these DVD's on "Getting to know famous artists" series. Today we watched the one on Michaelangelo and so many hands shot up into the air to ask questions. This series shows the actual work of the artists, but it also puts some of the characters in animation form. Because my students see it as part of a cartoon they don't get bored. We love these DVD's and are extremely grateful to you.”

  • "Miss....My Pencil Broke" Again!!!!!!

    Funded Dec 22, 2010

Today we received the pencil sharpeners and we were really excited. Students love to sharpen pencils and sometimes I think they even break their points on purpose, just for the sheer pleasure of sharpening it again. The sharpener looks very sturdy and I'm really happy about that. To be able to draw it's really important that your pencil have a nice point. We also like to use colored pencils as well. Having this sharpener sitting on my desk makes it so much easier on the students. We appreciate this more then you will ever know. We are very grateful! Thank you so very much.”

  • Amazing Artists Want To Learn How to Do Styrofoam Printing

    Funded Sep 23, 2010

We would like to thank you for your generous donation. We received the ink, brayers and foam paper, and could not wait to begin our project. Styrofoam printing is so much fun to do. You can tell by the smiles on their faces. First the students drew a picture with a pencil on a piece of paper. They then put their picture on top of the styrofoam paper. They retraced their picture and pressed down hard on the paper, causing it to put an indent on the styrofoam. They poured different colored ink into some trays, and used their brayers. They then put a clean piece of paper on top of their inked picture, and used a spoon to press down on it. Slowly they lifted it off their picture to get a print.

My students did animals for their first print, as you can see in the photos. We are mailing out our thank you letters this week. Thank you so much for helping our school. We couldn't do it without you!”

    Mrs. DeCrescenzo

I am the special education teacher at my school. I teach pre-k through fifth grade students (general education and special education mix) using a lot of art to connect with the common core standards for all subjects. I try to connect using STEAM whenever possible. My students love to learn by doing creative projects by using their hands. I feel it helps them retain the information much better when it's hands on. I believe that students that begin with a love for school, passion in the classroom, and a great foundation to learn, will have the best success as they move up the ladder in life.
