    Funded Jan 7, 2018

Thank you so very much for donating to this much needed project. My scholars will be overjoyed to hear the news that we will have Supplies before our eyes in just a very short time. I am super excited to begin our creative and visual arts lessons now that we have materials to support us. Again, we sincerely thank you and appreciate your support!”

  • Read Baby Read!

    Funded Aug 20, 2017

Thank you for providing my scholars the necessary resources to ensure consistent access to independent reading. Having a class library has strengthened the desires of the scholars to read more. Our new challenge is having more books. We welcome that challenge. Reading is essential to learning and prospering.

Upon receiving the materials, scholars were super excited. The program and objectives were previously discussed, so scholars had been anxiously waiting for the big delivery. We now have a place to house some of our books as well as a variety of books that scholars will be able to check as needed.

We are currently working on a weekly journal where every student will borrow a book from the library and complete a writing prompt about the specific novel they are reading.

Our hope is that we continue to receive books and ultimately create a library big enough to serve our entire school. Again, we sincerely thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Johnson

Our students com from a population that does not always have access to reading outside of a school environment. Libraries are not always located conveniently to a scholars home or public transportation, which most of our students depend upon. Scholars spend the majority of their day in a classroom or school environment, the perfect and sometimes only opportunity for a scholar to read. Having the neccessary tools to provide scholars with reading opportunites is essential within the classroom. As an ELA teacher, fostering a love and passion for reading is important. These supplies will serve various purposes beginning with exposure to the logistics of a library. Books must be housed properly and in specific arrangement, hence the need for a bookshelf. In order to keep a ready supply of books in good condition for all to share, scholars will learn to properly label the books for check out and return, the reasoning for library cards and pockets. This is also a time to learn accountability. Your name is listed as the student who now has the specific book. The last skill scholars will benefit from is responsibility. It is the scholars resonsibility to return to book on the date listed, as they are now being held accountable for the book.
