I am a first year teacher trying to prioritize the needs of my students and a classroom library is definitely a priority. As teachers, we all want the best for our students and as a new teacher (without a paycheck) my first challenge was not only to find engaging books, but finding different genres that my students will be able to read in a comfortable space in our classroom library. I have scoured garage sales and free book fairs looking for books that will excite the imagination of my students, but nothing beats how a new book feels or the smell of the new pages when you first open the cover of the book - a classroom library is absolutely priceless! I will have two bookshelves in my classroom and my students need some engaging new books as well as a safe area to to relax and read during their independent learning time. Because the books I've chosen for my students are leveled as well as varied in genre, my students will have a much easier time finding the book they desire and will encourage and further their interests in different types of literature now and in the future.
