  • A Table for Learning

    Funded Oct 1, 2023

I just wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to all my amazing family and friends who generously supported my DonorsChoose project. Your kindness and willingness to contribute towards getting a table for small group learning mean the world to me and, more importantly, to the students I work with.

Your support goes beyond the financial aspect – it sends a powerful message to these young minds that there are people out there who believe in their education and growth. I'm truly lucky to have such a wonderful network of friends and family who understand the importance of creating an environment conducive to effective learning. Thanks to you, we're not just getting a table; we're fostering a space where collaborative learning and meaningful connections can thrive.

I can't thank you enough for being a part of this journey and for making a positive impact on the education of these students. Your generosity has made a real difference, and I'm excited to see the positive ripple effects it will have in our classroom. Cheers to creating a brighter future together!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Homan

  • Strong Start in First Grade

    Funded Aug 13, 2021

Thank you so much for your support of my classroom. Returning back to the classroom after over a year ago remote learning was challenging but these materials made all the difference!

The organizational supplies have been a game-changer for managing social distancing and individual supplies. Students have been able to use all the materials to learn and grow this year. The journals have allowed students to explore their drawing, writing, and thinking.

My students are I are again so grateful to you and your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Homan

  • Decodable Books for Beginning Readers

    Funded Jul 11, 2021

These Decodable Books have been a GAME CHANGER in my classroom! Through this project, I was able to have 6 copies of each book to allow me to use them in small groups. I use these books every day to teach students how to read. These books are great because they are engaging for the students and only include words that the students are ready to read. They are able to feel confident and proud of their reading because the books are not too challenging or overwhelming. Each day students get to read a new book and grow as readers. It is amazing to see not only their abilities grow but their love of reading grow every day! I am so grateful for the donations that allowed me to purchase these books.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Homan

  • An Organized Start to Hybrid Learning

    Funded Jan 12, 2021

Thank you so much for your support of my classroom. Returning back to the classroom after nearly a year at home was challenging but these materials made all the difference!

The organizational supplies have been a game-changer for managing social distancing and individual supplies. I have been able to use the bins to set up individualized centers for the students. I have also used the zip lock bags to organize smaller materials. Students have all the materials they need to finish the year strong!

Again, I thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Homan

  • Personal School Supplies for Hybrid Learning

    Funded Aug 3, 2020

Thank you so much for your support of my classroom. These materials were instrumental in setting up Remote Learning this year. My students were able to have the materials they need to be successful and continue learning from home.

The dry erase pocket sheet protectors and markers have come in use each day while my students solve math problems. The crayons, journals, and paper have been great while students write about what they are reading.

I have received enough supplies to even replenish students after Remote Learning was extended.

Again, I thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Homan

  • Personal Materials for Remote Learning

    Funded May 28, 2020

Thank you so much for your continued support of my classroom. These materials have been so helpful to my students while they are learning from home. I was able to organize and send home school supplies to each of the students in my classroom to ensure they would have all the materials they need to learn at home. Now my students are able to focus on learning rather than worrying about having all the right supplies.

School buildings may be closed right now, but the learning has not stopped for my students thanks to your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Homan

  • Building Blocks for Learning

    Funded Jan 20, 2020

Thank you so much for your support in my classroom. My students LOVE the new learning tiles we received! When the box was first delivered we had a celebration dance and they could not wait to get their hands on it!

These materials help my students express their creativity through building different designs. They also get much needed time to work together and cooperate to build a shared project.

We look forward to working with these materials each week and are so grateful that you helped us reach this goal!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Homan

  • Technology to Enhance Student Growth and Learning

    Funded Jun 29, 2019

Thank you so much for donating to room 228. My students and I greatly appreciate your donations. Your donation is helping prepare my students for college and beyond.

The iPads and headphones we were able to purchase with your donations are used throughout the entire school day. Our favorite time to use them is during math and literacy centers. You can see in the photos how smoothly center time goes because students have the opportunity to go to the technology center with the iPads and headphones that were donated. Students are able to go on Khan Academy, Zearn, Lexia Core 5, and more for one of their centers while I teach a small group to meet all learning needs within the classroom. All students enjoy learning on the iPad; most would probably say it is their favorite center.

Again, thank you for your donation. I am extremely grateful for generous individuals like you.”

At our school, we use mClass to assess our K-3 students' reading and math skills/growth. With this program, a teacher uses an iPad for individual student testing. It is a very useful program and does not require teachers to use paper to assess the students (like many other programs) which helps the environment, saves the school money and supports organization. Students are assessed three times a year in reading and progress monitored every two to four weeks depending on their assessment results to inform instruction. In math, they are assessed/progress monitored even more frequently. The results are uploaded to the mClass website for teachers to analyze the data and then plan for future instruction. Teachers then use this program to print various reports to help inform whole-group/small-group instruction, create flexible grouping, explain data to parents, use as evidence for an IEP referral, etc. The best way to view and use the data is on a laptop or computer. It is possible on iPads, but they aren't as user friendly when viewing and using the data gathered from the assessment. Our school currently does not have enough laptops for each teacher in the building. We are short a few this year which is why this project includes a Chromebook in order to assess/progress monitor students consistently, teachers need to work one-on-one with students while the rest of the class works independently in differentiated centers. One of the centers that we use is a technology center, but it becomes limited while students are being assessed and progress monitored (which happens at minimum every two weeks) because teachers and other staff members need the iPads to assess students. With extra iPads, teachers will not have to limit student technology use during their differentiated center time.
