  • Enhancing Learning through Hands-On Math Manipulatives for Special Education

    Funded Nov 13, 2024

The Math manipulatives and technology resources that was provided through the support of my Donor's choose grant will enhance the educational experiences of third through sixth-grade students with mild to moderate learning disabilities at my school. Here's how these resources will make a significant impact:

Interactive and Sensory Engagement: The math manipulatives provide hands-on, tactile learning experiences that are essential for students with learning disabilities. These tools help in bridging the gap between abstract concepts and tangible understanding, fostering better engagement and retention.

Customized Learning Approaches: By catering to diverse learning styles, these resources ensure that each student can learn at their own pace and according to their unique needs, promoting a more personalized educational experience.

Math Concept Mastery: With the integration of Place Value Materials and Multiplication & Division Kits, students will have the opportunity to practice and master fundamental math concepts. This repeated practice in a structured environment supports concept retention and application.

Literacy Development: The Sight-Words Game is designed to boost literacy skills, crucial for reading development. Through interactive play, students can improve their vocabulary and reading comprehension in an enjoyable manner.

The acquisition of these essential resources will significantly enhance the learning environment at my school, providing students with the necessary tools to succeed academically and socially. The support from this grant will not only improve educational outcomes but also foster a sense of independence and confidence among students with learning disabilities. Your contribution will be pivotal in transforming the educational experiences and futures of these young learners.”

Thank you for supporting my special education classroom. Having activities that enable my students to be active helps my students focus while learning in a very fun way. These activities will be used to progress students in their understanding of reading, math and writing as they work to progress to grade level. Again thank you for your support!”

  • Making Math and Critical Thinking Fun Through Games

    Funded Oct 26, 2021

Thank you for contributing to my classroom. Your donations went toward magnetic classroom manipulatives and magnetic white boards. Your donations made learning fun for my students in reading, writing and math. My students were able to be active in their learning. As a teacher of special education students many of my students struggle with worksheets and "traditional" ways of learning. They need a way to show what they have learned that does not include writing and a worksheet and your donations allow them to do so.

Again thank you for your donations.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Chamberlain

  • Getting Stuck on Learning

    Funded Jan 29, 2022

Thank you for your generosity. This will make learning more hands-on for my students. The magnetic whiteboards and magnetic manipulatives will give my students a chance to move and be active when learning. We try to offer as many opportunities to our students as we can, and your support makes it possible for us to continue to do this. The supplies that you are providing for my students will allow us to teach and reinforce reading, writing and math.”

  • Let's Make Writing Fun Through Games

    Funded Oct 30, 2020

I want to say thank you for funding my project to get new writing activities for my special education students. These games have brought so much joy to my students. They have really enjoyed engaging with the games. Especially during COVID it has helped make learning fun! A lot of students struggle with learning new material and grasping the concepts such as grammar and writing complete sentences, so being able to play a game and have fun doing it makes it more exciting. I will continue to use these games and add to our game library!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Chamberlain

  • We're on a Roll!

    Funded Feb 6, 2019

Thank you for supporting my project. As a special education teacher that follows a push-in model, moving materials from class to class can be cumbersome. The carts make things so much easier! I am able to have all of my students assignments organized, the materials and manipulatives they need ready to go, and their incentives & point cards all in one place. In addition, the organization I gained from the carts was a tremendous help in keeping track of my students progress.

My students loved using the magnetic letters and rekenreks. The manipulatives allow my students to move and be physical while learning. They were a fun addition to their curriculum. The white boards are also so helpful! They are great during instructing students and just the right size to transport.

Again, that you for your support and your willingness to make my job easier.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Chamberlain

This classroom project was brought to life by Jordan Education Foundation and one other donor.
I am a special education teacher that follows a "push-in" model. I collaborate with the general education teacher and teach specialized instruction in my students' general education classroom. Our focus is to ensure students are receiving full access to the general education curriculum while limiting any disruption to their daily schedule (such as pulling students out of a classroom). This includes the implementation of specially designed modifications within the general classroom setting. Often, I am limited by what I can transport into my students classroom. I am asking for two 6-drawer carts equipped with sturdy wheels that will make moving manipulatives from classroom to classroom easier. These carts will ensure I have materials and manipulatives at hand to differentiate instruction for those students who are having difficulty understanding a concept. Manipulatives are concrete objects that students can use to develop a conceptual understanding of a topic or skill. For my project, I also plan to attach magnetic white boards onto both sides of the carts which will be used with magnetic manipulatives. In addition, magnetic alphabet letter manipulatives for my pre-readers to use and arrange as they learn word attack skills and Rekenreks (arithmetic racks which help student develop number sense) will complete my project. Students are shown to make the highest gains when manipulatives are a significant part of the curriculum and are a great way to reach tactile and visual learners. These requested items will assist me in making learning fun while improving my students performance,.
