Come On! Swing Batter, Batter! Part 2
Funded Mar 8, 2021Thank you so much!! We were so excited to learn that the project for this awesome new bat was funded. But that excitement paled when we saw the bat. Most all of the team wanted to take a turn to use it, including the coach.
And it was a sweet hitting bat. The girls loved the way the ball seemed to fly off it. It has a unique sound that we loved.
Shout out to Dick's Sporting Goods! They matched the donations that were made to the project. A HUGE shout out to DonorsChoose for giving us a platform that provides my students, my classroom, our athletic teams, and ME with amazing materials and opportunities.”

Funded Feb 28, 2021Thank you so much for funding this project. My webpage is very important to my students, parents, and me! It is an avenue of communication for us that is dynamic, informative, and fun. The project was funded just in time to renew the subscription and allows for an educational upgrade.
The snacks are also very welcome. School lunches sometimes aren't ordered on time, they lack the amount of food that is needed, or they just aren't what the student wanted. The snacks provide a quick uplift for my students.
And of course, none of this is possible without the wonderful assist from DonorsChoose! I love this platform that matches charitable folks and organizations to teachers...no, to students....so that we can have what we need in our educational world!”

Plop, Plop, Fizz, Fizz!
Funded Mar 1, 2021Plop, Plop, Fizz, Fizz, OH!! What a relief it is... to have 39 folks who are charitable and donate to the betterment of your students! I so appreciate you!
I was so excited to get this project completed when I did because it is a culminating activity to our Earth and Environmental class study of weathering. I use the Alka seltzers or effervescent tablets for a lab that is named, "What are the factors that affect the rate of a reaction?" Each lab group gets 6 tablets and for this year in COVID, that means a lot of tablets! As much as I would like to rely on students to bring in lab materials, I just can't. Thank you for helping us.
The new polypropylene beakers are awesome. They have raised graduations and numerals on them which make it so much easier to use. Our classroom is not outfitted with a water source, and because of COVID, we have no tables either. Having more labware just makes sense. having plastic labware is smart!
Thanks for the snacks, too, as they are always appreciated by hungry teens.
As for our results? Ice water takes about 3 minutes in which to dissolve an Alka seltzer, while hot water takes but 15 seconds. A whole tablet takes a lot longer than pieces or pulverized powder. That tells my students that the size of the sediment/rock or mineral does matter as it weathers and the temperature is a definite factor. Hands-on learning makes the difference, and so do you. Thanks again.”

Follow the Trail! Termite Pheromones
Funded Feb 14, 2021Thank you to the 39 donors who helped to fund this fun project.
I created a small slide show for the kids about the project and then explained the steps to the experiment. It was funny as they looked at me and said, "You are giving us termites?" "NO, way! I have an insect phobia". "And my favorite...."Does the school know you have termites in the building?"
As you can tell by the pictures, we had a great time. At one time, it was ONLY red BIC pens that termites followed, but now that it is not true. We have come to the conclusion that now other ink companies must have changed their formulas and those inks also leave a similar scent trail. The students were amazed that the termites went up the trail, got off course, but quickly responded by finding the path.
Thank you to all of you again. Big thanks to the Gift of Learning Giving page and Dawn who promoted the project on their page. And as always, the loudest shout to DonorsChoose for giving us a platform to match charitable donors to educators, but most importantly to students.”

A Comfortable Seat
Funded Jan 12, 2021Thank you for funding my project, "A Comfortable Seat"! This is a great addition to my classroom. I was sure we were going to be on an all virtual schedule when the project was created and my seat at home was HORRIBLE. However, the board changed their minds and we are still on a hybrid model. The chair is very welcome at school as well.
My older chair has now become a highly prized flexible seating choice. (hmmm...that might make a good project idea!)
The chair is grey, faux leather, and well padded. The only drawback that I have with it is that my school desk is very high and the chair doesn't rise to be quite tall enough, but I am getting used to it.
Thank you very much!!!”

Nets, Nets, Nets!
Funded Dec 8, 2020Aw, thank you! These nets are so awesome. They are so sturdy, easy to set up and take down, and even came with bags in which to store them. How neat and tidy.
The nets have a multitude of uses for our athletic teams and we strive to step up our practice sessions. With so many games being shuffled, rescheduled, or even canceled, having an exciting practice that still is competitive is ultra important to our athletes. They feed on the nature of games.
A huge thank you to Dick's Sporting Goods for triple matching the donations from other donors. This project came to life with the charity of several people! Without donors, you can't match! Special thanks to the Gift of Learning Giving page for helping to promote the project.”

Funded Dec 8, 2020Thank you for funding this simple yet necessary item (barbell clamps) to make our strength and conditioning room a safer place for our athletes. Barbell clamps are important to keep the weights stable on the bar as our athletes use the weight lifting equipment.
It has been a crazy year with COVID-19 but the strength and conditioning room has still been used every day even though we may not have been able to play certain sports or big games. Thank you for making that space safer for them. A huge THANK YOU to Dick's Sporting Goods who TRIPLE matched donations made by others.”

Funded Oct 26, 2020HOORAY! This project is a favorite of my students, but very hard to afford for the families. However, DonorsChoose to the rescue. AND the biggest donor was SONIC drive-in who donated 600 big beautiful bucks towards the cars! What an awesome partnership.
The students love this project as they can create a small solar car from the kit. The car has a solar panel that can be manipulated to garner the most light to run the fastest. Then we have a competition between our students and run the race.
The students also like the fact that they can decorate the car to win a prize to be the most creative design.
Of course, timing is everything! Because of COVID and online/hybrid learning, the race may not be the same, the contest for being the most decorative is more difficult to judge, but the learning remains the same. Following directions, assembling a kit, putting together a model, learning about the impact of solar power....the list goes on. Thank you for affording this opportunity for my students.”

Dedicated Tech for a Virtual Teach
Funded Dec 2, 2020You just don't know how wonderful it is to have a dedicated LAPTOP computer (not a tablet or a mobile phone or a Chromebook) for school lesson preparation, grading, etc. Wait? You DO!!! That's why you supported this awesome project. THANK YOU so much.
Although I am blessed with a lot of tech at home to use, there is nothing like the power of a laptop. Programs work differently on different platforms, but they run or perform the best with a desktop or laptop. With the other devices, I could not hook up my current printer (it's an oldie but a goodie!) or use the larger screen that I have. I almost cried when my old desktop died and left me; that is why this project was important to me. For all of these reasons, I am thankful to have this laptop.”
