Busy Hands and Creative Minds
Funded Oct 10, 2018This project has been amazing in my class! The students have made their own needles and now are on their way to knitting. Officially all twenty students are able to knit on their needles. It's wonderful to see the students knitting together, talking and creating such a nice and warm community in our second grade classroom.
It's interesting that this project has gone out into our community of Palo Alto. Many students bring home their knitting projects and knitting tools to work on them at home. Families have shared with me that students knit at home, in restaurants, on airplanes!”

Let's Build!
Funded Sep 7, 2017Thank you very much for your generous donation of the Kapla Blocks. When the package arrived (and it was BIG!), the students could not wait to open it!! They guessed and guessed but could not figure out what was inside.
We use the Kapla blocks at least twice a week. The students love to build tall towers with them. They also enjoy working together to plan and execute buildings. If they see the word "kapla" on the math stations, they squeal with joy. They absolutely LOVE using them. I had hoped to be able to use these blocks for coding with the Sphero Robots, but we did not get the grant for 1:1 ipads.
The students have been using the school AirBook laptops to code, so we plan to continue with the idea of having them coding these robots to get through the Kapla Maze. I am really looking forward to this project.
All in all, the Kaplas have really improved the cooperation, teamwork, and creativity in 2nd grade.
