I am thrilled to starting my dream position as the first certified teacher school librarian at Shawmont in at least 25 years, and will become one of only four school librarians in the School District of Philadelphia. I spent a month over the summer working with several volunteers to weed over 100 boxes of old, damaged, and outdated books from the collection. With the help of Western Philadelphia Children's Alliance (WePAC), two librarian volunteers, and the University of Pennsylvania Library, almost 3,000 books have been catalogued. There are another 3,000 or so books to go before we can begin lending to our Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade students. I am working towards genrefication of all picture books, middle elementary grades, and teen books and graphic novels. We are adding the final touches to the brand new Pre-K through 8th grade area that is pictured. The coach will go where the beanbags are.
