Pens, Pencils, and Books - Oh My!
Funded Mar 9, 2016Thank you so very much for your generosity. Your financial support provided pencils, pens, books, and paper for our classroom. As our school is located in a high poverty neighborhood, students do not always have the basic school supplies and purchasing the necessary items can be a financial hardship. We are truly blessed and grateful for your goodness and kindness.
I was having a difficult week and not looking forward to going to work when I checked my email. I had to read the email several times before I truly understood that my grant was funded. My whole outlook changed. I had a smile a mile long as I walked into the building. It turned out to be a productive, positive day.
Thank you so very much for inspiring me, my students, and also my colleagues.”

The Holocaust ~ Empowering Students Through the Arts
Funded Dec 17, 2015My students are so excited about our new art supplies! We are preparing to use the paint and markers this week to create a Holocaust mural. I'm excited to see what great work the students produce as they don't have many opportunities to share their knowledge of a subject through art.
I am grateful and elated for your financial support. Words can't express the positive impact this had on my 65 sixth grade students! I work diligently to keep these students actively engaged in their learning, but I won't have any difficulty getting students to participate in the art lessons.
Thank you again for your generosity and kindness.”

Technology Tools to Enhance Learning
Funded Oct 20, 2015Thank you for funding our "Technology Tools to Enhance Learning" grant! We received a laptop, document camera, and a color printer. These technological tools have motivated and inspired the students to work to their full potential. They love working on the laptop due to its touch screen. The document camera is an awesome tool as I can quickly display students' work, assignments, and even capture images and videos! The color printer allows me to display students' work around the school and they love seeing their writing in the hallways and on bulletin boards.
Your generosity and support of education is greatly appreciated!”

Reviving Reading Instruction
Funded Apr 3, 2015I am extremely grateful for your financial support of the Reviving Reading Instruction project. I am currently reading "What Works for Struggling Readers" by Richard Allington. As I read, I am creating a list of strategies to incorporate into my classroom. I see an improvement in my class as the students are actively engaged in learning activities that are relevant and require the use higher order thinking skills.
I have three more books to read! Throughout the summer, I will be reviewing the standards, developing units, and researching resources to use. I am excited about the positive changes that I'm making to ensure my students make steady academic progress.”

Funded Oct 3, 2013My students and I are grateful for the Kindles you purchased for our classroom. We use the Kindles on a daily basis. They have had a great impact on reading in our classroom. The students are motivated and inspired to read! The e-readers provide support to my struggling readers. They regularly use the "read to me" feature which provides access to more books.
We can also use the Kindles to access the Internet for research, play educational games, and listen to music. A recent review of data revealed that students have increased the amount of time they spend reading. Additionally, reading scores have steadily improved.
Thank you again for your generosity!”

Funded Aug 2, 2013My students and I are extremely appreciative of the e-books we recently received. The students have not yet had much access to the books, as I was saving them to use during our American Historical Figure Research and Inquiry Projects. The students will have opportunities to read the books on our Nooks, Kindles, and iPads.
I can't wait to introduce the students to the interactive e-books! I know these books will motivate some of my struggling readers to read.
After reading the autobiographies, students will create multimedia presentations about their historical figures! These books are truly a blessing for us!
Your generosity, kindness, and financial gift is truly appreciated and valued.”

Funded Mar 22, 2013Thank you for purchasing nonfiction e-books for our classroom. The students used the books to research historical figure and civil rights events. The students enjoyed learning about Cesar Chavez, Trail of Tears, Civil Rights Movement, and Japanese Interment camps.
The students had the opportunity to compare and contrast the treatment of the following minority groups: African-Americans, Mexican-Americans, Japanese-Americans, and Native Americans. They mostly enjoyed reading the books on our electronic devices!
We sincerely appreciate your kindness and generosity.”

Funded Oct 11, 2012My students and I sincerely appreciative of your generosity! You provided the funds which allowed us to purchase 5 Blackberry Playbook tablets. The students use the tablets in a variety of ways on a daily basis. We download books and read, create multimedia projects, and research a variety of topics.
With the tablets, we have also been able to video chat with a third grade classroom in a nearby city. The students enjoy using our new technological tools. I find the students are more engaged in our classroom activities and retaining the information.
Thank you again for your support.”
