  • Be Cool! Access to Functioning Air Conditioning!

    Funded Jan 14, 2021

Thank you so much for this donation! This is not a typical school year for these students by any means and this donation of a portable AC unit will make such a difference in the students attitudes towards learning as we enter into hotter months. We learn well into late June which can be very hot as we are in a corner classroom with many windows.

When we go back to a normal school year, this amazing donation will help keep my students cool during the hot summers here in New York City. These children are dedicated to their education and try their best despite the challenges ahead of them and this makes one less thing they have to worry about: being hot while trying to learn. Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Diamond

  • Creativity in the Classroom: Cutting Through Diversity

    Funded Aug 13, 2020

This donation was going to allow many of my students to feel a sense of belonging by making t shirts and other personalized items, but due to Covid 19 and the item becoming unavailable, I had to adjust the donation you so graciously gave us.

I used the funds to purchase more Amazon fire tablets so more children in the class could have access to the internet. Many of our in house devices are on loan to remote students who chose to participate in learning at home during this time. As a result, the in person children did not have access to functioning devices that they could use for research and other educational resources.

I wanted to share some of the designs that we would have used with the Cricut device that was in the original order, and we will use one day when all of the students can return to school safely.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Diamond

  • Surfing the Web: Access to Technology for ALL!

    Funded Aug 13, 2020

As a teacher in a title 1 school, we have limited budgets on things like technology. Previous to this donation, there were not enough devices for children in the classroom.

Thanks to this donation, all the children in the third grade can have access to the internet to do research and enhance their learning.

Now with Covid 19 temporarily changing the definition of a "standard education," most schools have shifted to an online/remote model. So many of our devices were lent out to remote learners. Students in person now have devices to use while the others are helping their classmates. We greatly appreciate your gracious donation!”

  • Color the Reading Curriculum!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you for this donation! Due to a lack of funds, many students have to share texts or receive black and white copies of the books we use. The children were so excited to have this printer where they were able to have color copies of the texts. The children are learning how to make copies of their work in color. My students now see that anything in possible and I hope this has inspired were so excited to have a piece of technology in the classroom that the teacher lets them use freely as needed, and they feel confidence in knowing how to use it. Thank you so much for this chance to engage the children in the curriculum, allowing for them to have a full color copy of the classroom texts when we do not have enough to accommodate, and helping them to understand how to be independent.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Diamond

As a Title I elementary school, many students do not have access to necessary materials that the students need to have a happy and healthy education. In such a diverse and culturally varied school, my goal is to make my 65 students feel unified and to create a sense of belonging all while being part of the school community. All of my projects are aimed to address the socio-emotional aspect of my students as well as being culturally responsive. I want all students who enter my classroom to feel like they can be who they want to be and express themselves creatively, especially for those students who have challenging home situations and issues in learning. I want them to be able to create decorations, use technology for assingments, and participate in school wide events without feeling like it may be to hard for their families or they cannot afford to be involved financially. Help me bridge the gap!
