This year, I am trying to incorporate more technology into my classroom. My students need Chromebooks. They need access to such to hone their computer and research skills, as well as participate in online simulations, WebQuests, and even computer coding. I want my students to be able to have their own computer during class to complete such activities. This is a start to building such a technology-based classroom. I want my students to have the opportunity to learn and develop their skills in the use of computers and technology. Via technology, my students can learn a great deal on the latest topics in environmental science including learning about the opposing viewpoints on climate change, investigating the EPA's site on global warming, and calculating what their ecological footprint might be and how that compares to other countries in the world using an online ecological footprint calculator. In the process, they learn collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving skills while researching, evaluating web-based resources, and creating infographics and online surveys. Having access to computers assures me that they are ready for the next stage of learning (after high school).
