As students start to plan their classes for Freshman year of High School, many have expressed their interest in sewing. This project will give them basic skills towards sewing and will not only prepare them, but give them confidence going into a freshman sewing class. This project will start off by teaching students about different sewing materials that are needed for a basic project. Students will then progress from watching a teacher model project, team project, partner project and eventually an individual project. The team and partner projects will be something that will go back towards the community. One being a lap blanket for veterans in the local nursing home and aprons for preschool students. Students will eventually work their way up to an independent project. This project is something that they will keep for their hard work throughout the year. Donations for fabric have already been made for these projects, but we do not have the supplies to create. This project will be sustained and grow year after year by adding new supplies after these start up supplies through fundraising and student run concession stands at our school.
By choosing to donate to our project, you will not only be offering students the chance to learn, but guiding and setting them up for success in a freshman class.
These students will take away the joy of creating and giving others a hand made item.
