Using Science to STEM Out!
Funded Feb 2, 2019I do not even know where to begin to express my gratitude! My students are truly each unique, special, loving and amazing little people. They are so hardworking and eager to learn and I only want to provide them with the best educational experience I can possibly give them.
My class is an English Language Immersion class, so in addition to learning the 2nd grade curriculum, they are learning the English language along the way. Providing them a beneficial educational experience requires many hands on experiences to help provide additional academic support and Science tends to be a challenge.
Your donation helped support our science curriculum exposure. The students can now listen to books on cd in groups to dive into knowledge, as well as perform science activities regarding magnets, simple machines, forces of motion and science inquiry.
My students were so excited when the boxes arrived and even more excited when they saw what was in the boxes. They had such a blast exploring the materials and are now even more eager to cover these science topics in the upcoming months.
Again, words do not begin to express my gratitude. I thank you so much for investing in my students' futures as well as having faith in me for teaching our future.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Ramirez

Funded Feb 15, 2019Teaching for The New York Department of Education system has always shown the true beauty of diversity. In addition to teaching in the most diverse place I Am also blessed to work with English Language learners. Working with new language learners has its challenges especially trying to help them learn the English language as well as grade level content. In addition to these academic necessities we need to integrate movement and physical activity (brain breaks) throughout the course of the day. This is why this project was so important to me.
Incorporating a Qball is providing my students with the opportunity to find their voice, share their responses and incorporate ball into our day to day learning routines. They are all eager to use it, as well as paying attention more, to the task at hand just to participate in this fun game of catch. Thank you for bringing this project to life as well as investing in my students' future we truly appreciate your generosity.”

Funded Jan 25, 2019I am tremendously grateful for your generosity in funding our project and making this learning opportunity a reality. My classroom consists of different learners, with different learning styles as well as different needs and approaches through their learning and what I have learned throughout my career as a teacher- hands on and collaborate work are some of the most meaningful opportunities.
With a big educational push on technology and science, new tools and hands on experiences are best to reinforce and learn these skills. When my students saw their robots they were so excited and could not wait to put their robots to use! Although we are still in the warming up stages with the Spheros I cannot wait to integrate them into our units of studies such as forces of motion, creative writing, coding and robotics. As for the table we are eagerly waiting to set up our full stem station where the students will go full force being coders.
Teachers are just like students with the proper tools we can work wonders. I know the effort I put into my students' daily learning experience, your funding provided me with materials to not speak on something but actually do it. I cannot thank you enough!”

Funded Jan 30, 2019Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! Your generosity is greatly appreciated! My students are eager writers who takes great pride in their work and most importantly they love sharing their finished products with the school community as well as their family.
With the comb binding machine my students will be able to create and publish their own stories to share with others. We are looking forward to creating a book for our kindergarten friends (which we have been working on for the last month).
My students are so excited about this machine because they call it our "publisher" they think that we are a book publishing company! (We are working on our trademark logo and name)
What made me really content with this project is students who were not as eager to write are showing a new motivation and are creating their own writing pieces. Overall I want everyone to be a writer and with your donation, you are helping to make this possible! Thank You so much for caring about my students' future.”

Funded Jan 30, 2019First and foremost, Thank You! Words cannot describe the gratitude I have for the fulfillment of this project. From the moment this package came in my students were beyond ecstatic! They did not even know what the surface was but when they saw how neat and advance it was they thought it was a touch screen computer.
In my classroom I take pride in incorporating technology, and because my 2nd graders are familiar with generic tablets, I thought using surface tablets would help give them the connection of computers as well as practice keyboarding skills with the keyboards. My students were so excited to take time to work in groups with the surface. I am hoping this piece of technology catches on and my colleagues get on board with trying out these tablets as well.
In a world that is so technologically driven it is important to give our children the opportunity to become rehearsed in all that is out there. Thank you for helping us move in that direction and believing and supporting in my class!”

Funded Dec 14, 2018Thank You so much for your kind generosity! My students are so grateful for the tabletop easels and the Amazon dot. Once the easels were set up, the students wanted to collaborate in small groups jotting down their ideas and sharing with one another. As for the Amazon Dot they cannot wait to ask Alexa a billion and one questions while listening to Mozart during writing.
Last week my students participated in reciprocal teaching with the table top easels and were so eager to read their article of the day because they were going to use the easels to share their ideas. They were so excited we invited the 3rd grade class to join us and contribute to our learning.
The table top easels are just the beginning to advancing our classroom materials. We are looking forward to using these easels during small group learning, robotics and coding as well as math and literacy. Thank you so much for investing in our education and providing us with the opportunity to be the best learners we can be!”

Funded Nov 29, 2018Howdy Do! In the words of our newly Dash robots. I cannot thank you enough for your kind donations in helping me incorporate robotics and coding into my classroom. It is such an amazing thing to watch, 6 and 7 year Olds, creating their own code formulas to make robots move. Watching these little people come together to help problem solve, as well as watch this new component to our classroom spark a new light; I can only imagine the new opportunities and doors this will open for my little friends.
In a technological world my students need as much exposure to computer science as possible! And starting to introduce them to the understanding of coding now will help set them up for success. With your donations you have help pave the way for these learners as well as open new doors and opportunities.
On behalf of my students and myself, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! You may have helped discover the next Steve Jobs, Bill Gates or Larry Page!”

Ms. Ramirez

Funded Oct 19, 2018First and foremost, I hope all of your are well! It is so hard to express in brief words how incredibly THANFUL I am to your contribution to our classroom learning tools. My class consists of 30 learners who are English language learners. These children come from various countries ranging from Bengali, Pakistan, Vietnam, Dominican Republic, Ecuador and many more places. These children are very limited to their resources at home and have very minimal experiences due to hardships. By you donating to our class my students are being given the opportunity to use technology to help support their learning.
My students were beyond grateful when the boxes arrived with our Ipad and Lego Wedo set. The students have used the Ipad to use the various reading programs purchased by the school (that they cannot use at home due to lack of tools) to further support reading and math, they have used the ipads to do research to support their informational nonfiction essays, they have used the ipad to attach to the Lego system as well as use applications to support their precoding skills. The students are also having a blast creating moving lego creations with the WeDo Lego set The students are using these tool to expand their curiosity, provide background experiences, build on language as well as build on collaborations in groups.
I have seen such a change towards working on our reading programs and such ownership in my students regarding their learning. I truly makes me happy. They are helping each other use it effectively and using such dynamic social skills while sharing.
I already have the challenge of making sure these learner's learn what is necessary to be successful academically and proficient in language but you definitely took the financial strain off of me regarding providing beneficial tools to support my learners. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Ramirez
