I am a third grade teacher in an inner city school. I teach in a 100% low income 72% black school. Many of my students live in a one parent home, foster homes or with grandparents. Most of my students are not sure if they will have electricity, water or even a meal when they get home each day after school. When you think of inner city schools most minds go to cities like L.A. most people never think of Oklahoma City as inner city, but we are and we are plagued with the same issues as all those other inner city schools. Many of my students would rather pick up a book and read instead of fight but they just don't have the opportunity to do that. The power education holds is wonderful and my students know that.
